Here's a good article on where not to use your debit card. http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/4-risky-places-swipe-debit-080203093.html

I personally don't use my debit card for anything other than withdrawing money from the cash machine inside our bank. I have credit cards from Visa, MC, and Amex that don't cost me anything, and I pay them off as soon as they appear on my online statement. I very seldom buy anything online, but I occasionally will use gift certificates that I can redeem for online merchandise at Future Shop or Best Buy.

I use paypal via my bank account for any purchases on line. In fact I have instituted a claim for a parcel not received and paid for. First time ever, and they are very good about it.

If my debit card is compromised, the bank puts the money back in my account. In fact the police told them once about it and they called and gave me a new debit card and number.

I have a debit card and only use it at the bank! I buy EVERYTHING by credit card and pay the balance immediately, when due!
