This morning I noticed there wasn't much coffee in the coffee maker so added more water - and it came out the bottom! They do wear out every so often but I've never had one do that before so I put it in the sink and tried again. I guess it's kaput! Of course it's a holiday today so the stores are closed. I wonder if my ancient instant coffee is still good. |

I use a Mr. Coffee cheapest you can find on the shelf at Wal-Mart. They last about a year and go kaput. I tried the more expensive ones and the same. So for about $15-$18 I get a new one. |

A friend of mine told me about his father who is a preacher and always talks about addiction. He told me he just doesn't have the heart to tell his father about his absolutely necessary cup of coffee in the morning. Can you imagine how much coffee is consumed every day. The drive-in coffee lanes at Tim Horton's is loaded with cars every morning. |

I don't have the patience to stand in line at Tim's and hate it when the cars in line block the road. I had instant this morning and it was not great - maybe because it was at least 5 years old. The Melita carafe took ages yesterday so it's off to the stores this morning. |

According to my doctor, cheating is OK as long as you lie to the lab tech and take your 1 cup black. |

What was the lady's name in the Folger's commercial. It was a Scandinavian name. Was it Mrs. Olson? |

I try to ignore commercials so don't remember the Folger's one. I just bought a President's Choice coffee maker. It has a 2-year warranty; let's hope the coffee is good. |

"9. Is drinking coffee made with a paper filter healthier than drinking boiled coffee or other types of coffee? Coffee contains a substance called cafestol that is a potent stimulator of LDL cholesterol levels. Cafestol is found in the oily fraction of coffee, and when you brew coffee with a paper filter, the cafestol gets left behind in the filter. Other methods of coffee preparation, such as the boiled coffee common in Scandinavian countries, French press coffee, or Turkish coffee, are much higher in cafestol. So for people who have high cholesterol levels or who want to prevent having high cholesterol levels, it is better to choose paper filtered coffee or instant coffee, since they have much lower levels of cafestol than boiled or French press coffee. Espresso is somewhere in the middle; it has less cafestol than boiled or French press coffee, but more than paper filtered coffee. " When researching what kind of coffee is good for you, I found this. I guess it confirms why I use filtered coffee as I had heard before that there was something in the coffee oils that was not good for you. I love a good cup of coffee, but since I have a cholesterol issue, I think I'll stick to my filtered. I have been using the same old drip coffee maker for years. I'm waiting for it to die so I can get a nicer looking one. However, I made the mistake of having my husband fix it several years ago. I think there was a wire loose and it has been going ever since. |

"Espresso is somewhere in the middle" I wonder why that would be if filtering is what keeps the bad stuff out. Espresson is certainly not filtered and you get almost pure coffee as no water (in its liquid form) passes through it, only steam. |

What I would like is a coffee maker that keeps the coffee hot after it's made. Mine is only lukewarm and has to be microwaved. |

The old Cory or Silex were great for that. Composed of 2 glass globes and a glass stopper. The water was in the bottom globe which was on the burner, the coffee was in the top globe and as the water heated it displaced the glass rod a little bit and seeped up into the top globe with the coffee. When almost all the water was in the top globe you would stir and remove the whole apparatus from the burner. Almost immediately the water would drain over the coffee grounds from the top globe which you would remove and put the bottom globe back on the burner turned to low. it was our fav method of making coffee as it was used in a restaurant that my father owned. They stopped making them - maybe because there was a problem with one or other globes breaking fairly often. |

I wish the coffee was hotter but am glad to be having a good cup of it in the morning again anyway. This new machine is better at that than some I've had. |
