This is not really bugging me a lot as it was only a loss of only a little over 100$. I loved the little convection/toaster oven but it lasted only 1 yr 3 mos - not long enough! At least it is all metal and can be recycled for scrap metal, and sail the seas on a return journey to China to come back as some other short-lived object, no doubt. The element warped and started to burn......pull the plug and see if it can be replaced....nope....more planned obsolescence. Check online and see if I can communicate with OSTER, nope, not so far........mail addy not working at OSTER/SUNBEAM. I guess they do not want to hear from me. I may try the 1 800 # but I know it wil get me nowhere, over 1 yr, no warranty,no replacement, no nothin, uno laugh123 as usual with the serviceless industries, these days :sigh: So, all that is left to me is to let all my friends know, as per the email they will not receive at the addy listed on their web site. Gmail says no go. Do not buy OSTER/SUNBEAM if you want an item to last or to talk to someone about it if it fails. The Home Hardware store where I bought it is notorious locally for not being helpful either. I think I will scrounge the 2nd hand stores for a used one that is tried and true........ 102 |

Be careful of buying second hand toaster ovens, etc. I was told of someone who brought in cockroaches in a used microwave. It would be cheaper in the long run to buy new and hope for better luck next time. I keep hearing that the new appliances just don't last long compared to the old ones. |

Hi Dana, was your oven the digital electronic type as shown by the attachement ? We bought this one over 2 years ago, and use it almost every day. It's worked flawlessly for us, so much so that our friends bought the exact same one and it has worked great for them as well. Ours was originally $149 at Cantire but we paid $80 on sale, we would be lost without it and if something goes on it and I can't fix it, we will replace it with something similar. We only use our large stove over for anything that won't fit in the counter top oven. If you have someone handy, (or maybe you're a handy kind of gal) the elements aren't that hard to fix, I repaired our previous toaster oven twice before giving it away.

Plug it in outside before bringing it in. I doubt cockroaches could stand 300 degrees. |

There are no replacement parts listed for that unit or I would get out the screw driver. "I keep hearing that the new appliances just don't last long compared to the old ones. " That's what I am thinking. The unit I bought is not easily found online. It is a model with a 'sky light' so that food |

Neighbors threw out a brand new TOASTMASTER OVEN... TTOB4RL (I give the model because it's infamous.) I reclaimed it from the recycle area because it is startlingly good looking, unlike some commonly very ugly toaster ovens. It has worked beautifully for 5-6 years now. Some people have had it explode on them, others have had their houses burn down, stories all over the Internet. And of course that's why I have a new one for free. It is an absolutely TERRIFIC appliance. I can imagine setting it to BROIL and setting the timer for an hour and taking a nap...but then I'm not an idiot. I can also imagine someone sticking their tongue in a light socket and complaining about the light socket. Dana, you said
amplify on that. A steel heating element won't "burn"...just get red hot as it is meant to do. Do you mean got saturated in grease which caught fire? What does the plug have to do with it? Edited by Trotsky, Apr 24 2012, 07:17 AM.

Surely you have the Canadian equivalent of The Consumer Guarantees Act It puts the onus back on the retailer to sell only those items which are 'fit for the purpose' ..... the retailer then has the serious heart to heart discussion with the manufacturer, so you don't need to bother. |

No, I don't cook much in the way of fatty foods. When I turned it on last I noticed a light inside I had not seen before. When I looked, the element was the source of that light at a point on the element where it had split. It looked like it was about to burst into flame ( an assumption) and so, I pulled the plug, in more ways than one on that unit. It is past its warranty and so, the dealer where I bought it is of no use in such a case. It worked really well until it didn't. I'll keep my eyes open for a deal somewhere out of town and hope for better luck. |

Officially, from Sunbeam/Oster NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE for something that cost over 100$??? tsk tsk It looks like it would be an easy fix if only a part could be had. Even the local fix it guy says replace it, like 100$ is nothing. So, as far as I and my convection oven are concerned - Oster/Sunbeam sucks. Edited by Dana, Apr 25 2012, 06:10 AM.
