pillow cases

I like pillow cases to fit snug on the pillow but they make them so wide I always have to take a seam down them to get them to fit right. Why do I have to do alterations on the darn things?

Never noticed what a pillow case looks like on a pillow. I fall asleep so fast I'm not even sure there is a pillow on my side of the bed.

I think I might notice if my wife put an open plastic bag on my side though.

I have one of the old ones with kittens embroidered on it and a few odd cotton ones for spares. I leave the sewing machine up for all these infernal alterations like pillowcases, pants, etc.
Sewing machine? Most people today don't know what a sewing machine machine is.

Not so Durgan, there are many of us who sew, knit and crochet. Not just us old biddys either, all you have to do is check out all the sewing websites and blogs.

I no longer make my own clothes but with the infernal lycra in pants and the oversized pillow cases, the machine has to stay up to keep taking things in.

Now that I'm a grandmother I'll be doing even more sewing. I'm a fabricoholic, can't wait to put some of it to use.

I almost FAINTED a couple weeks ago.
We walked into a very chi-chi shop that I had never been in before in the finest area of town called GRACIOUS HOME (4 stores in NYC) and they were featuring lovely virginal white pillowcases, (900 count I believe) and the price was:

DRUMROLL

$189/pair.

I kid you not. THe price gave me the giggles.

We mentioned this to a friend who said she LOVES the store (but cannot afford anything there) and when she was in last she saw a customer berating a clerk for being rude. The customer: Caroline Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg. Reportedly she kept shouting "Do you know who I am?"

I have the opposite problem. Many of my pillowcases are a bit older so don't fit into the new pillows.I have never seen the extra wide ones. The standard size is 21"x32" and the queen is 21"x36". Maybe you need new pillows. They should be washed or buy new ones every year at least.

I like to sleep with a pillow under my feet covered with a flannel pillow case. My feet get cold at night. Don't I sound older than the Pyramids?

I sometimes wear socks because of cold feet.

I got some new jumbo pillows; the cases are quite snug and I may have to let out some seams.

Me neither,
But my friend is completely trustworthy and an avid "celebritologist."

Washing pillows:
I KNOW that after about 40 years I should wash my pillows but I am so afraid I will wind up with a washing machine full of wet feathers.

I was in Canadian Tire one day and there was a sewing machine there on sale for $20.00.

So I figure how can I go wrong.

Well it sure saves a lot of time and money as well.

I buy drapes and curtains off the rack and alter them myself to fit my windows.

I buy pants and cuff them myself.

There's nothing to it. It's not just the money. It's the time saved. I don't have to go running around town finding a tailor and then picking the stuff up again and I absolutely hate getting measured up.

And just recently i sewed a type of long bag that is filled with rye wheat and is heated in the microwave. It's really nice on my neck which is always sore. I had whiplash in an accident a few years ago.

Trotsky it will help if you keep the pillow encased in a pillow case. If you haven't got needle and thread use a few safety pins to close the opening.
