I saw this done on "Come Dine with Me". I think they brushed it with olive oil. It looked so delicious. The head was cut in 4's lengthwise. Has anyone ever roasted or BBQ'd Romaine lettuce? |

I googled "cooked lettuce" and found quite a number of sites, and it appears to have been going on for quite a while. I've never heard of it before nor tryed it, I can't stand wilted lettuce in a salad or even on a burger, the thought sort of makes me squeamish. But, I might try it one day just to see what they're talking about. |

After cooking, it almost had a charred look about it and I thought she had burned it. All the dinner guests however, were raving about it. Have to try it if I ever get my BBQ working. |

Roasting or grilling eggplant over charcoal would make a difference in taste, but if it is gas you might as well just do it in the oven. |

Same with Romaine? It's a lot easier basting with olive oil on the barbeque and turning it than it is in an oven. I use one burner and have the cooking done on the opposite side. For flavour you can add wood chips like mesquite or hickory chips to the coals. Edited by campy, Jun 2 2012, 11:37 AM.

The secret is in the sauce. When all else fails, use sour cream. |

I notice that Costco has baby eggplants that would sure look nice halved and roasted on a BBQ. I had a delightful zucchini soup once at a restaurant made with cream. 049 |
