Celebrated a friend's birthday last night with dinner and a movie at our local Cineplex. I usually avoid this place like the plague: it's horrible black and neon colour schemes, moronic games rooms, horrendously loud soundtracks, disgusting washrooms (and whoever planned the washrooms to be located the other side of the ticket taker?), lack of info about the movies showing (eg, no run times), underfilled popcorn containers, diluted pop, uncomfortable seats. The movie - not my choice but then not much choice anyway - was rank too. Oh well, today I will visit my grandchildren and laugh a lot. Sigh. 527 |

They have the nerve to run really, really loud commercials too! |

I find if I go to a 12-plex, the men's room is PRECISELY 11 theaters away. |

Often times I have wanted to go to the movies but by the time you pay your ticket, get your drink walk a long distance you feel like you just went through a marathon gone bad.. Last movie I saw was Harry Potter with my son and that was long ago..... I wanted to have a party for my grandson when they were here 2 years ago invite a few little rug rats I knew the price at Cineplex was outrageous. For a slice of Pizza & Drink... |

The parking spaces are always at the farthest side of the theatre also, at least up my way. I agree take your own popcorn. |

These places thrive while a lot of much more congenial cinemas, including most of the second run and art/foreign places, are shuttered. |

It's all moot for me. My "Cineplex" is a 46 inch SONY BRAVIA 8 feet in front of my Laz-Y-Boy connected to Netflix Streaming, Showtime, and getting Blu-Ray discs delivered in the mail all connected to a 500 Gb hard drive DVR capable of storing about a gazilion movies with room to attach another Terabyte drive to triple the capacity. No waiting, no tickets, no elbows battling me for the center-rest, and all the popcorn I can wolf down at about a quarter a bag (I buy the 40 carton of Orville at Costco.) I have a movie a night and sometimes two unless we are going to REAL theater twice a week...tonight will be "A BETTER LIFE" in Blu-Ray high def, tomorrow the New York Philharmonic in Central Park free. This high tech life is NICE for seniorsl. Edited by Trotsky, Jul 13 2012, 09:53 AM.

My alternative is just as comfy but a lot cheaper. I've been getting DVDs and videos from Salvation Army and Good Will. The videos are 49 cents and the DVDs less than $3. I picked up a few for $1 at Zellers. Yesterday I watched Fatal Attraction. I know it's old and I saw it many years ago but it was a good suspense movie and I'd forgotten the plot. |
