I am going to make scalloped potatoes, ham and carrots this week, along with an apple pie. I need the ham bone to make a hot pea soup that my grandmother used to make. Now all I have to find is her cheese buiscuit recipe. |

I love parsnip dishes. I used to refuse to eat them because my grandmother drowned them in water and boiled them to a mush. My mil served them cooked just right with carrots in the same pot and chopped into smallish pieces, then buttered. I was amazed at how much I enjoyed them and began searchin parsnip recipes. I still love the carrots and parsnips with a roast. |

Fall has always meant for me Brussels Sprouts and Acorn Squash...but both are getting as expensive as GOLD thesee days. All through the 70's and 80's I would buy Brussels Sprouts at my favorite greengrocer for $.25 a pound every October and November and I would serve them 3 times a week. The last time I bought them they cost me $2.99 a pound. That's CRIMINAL. So now I pretty much do without. |

I have a ton of Brussel sprouts in our garden which I have never cooked before. Anyone have a good recipe for them that they have personally tried? My favorite fall recipes involve roasting veggies with garlic and olive oil: parsnips, carrots, onions, peppers, winter and summer squashes...all together. |

That looks like a good idea for people who don't like sprouts, but the real treat is simply to steam them or cook them in boiling water (cut a cross in the bottom, helps to cook faster because of course you don't want to overcook) and serve with butter and pepper. |
