I received this from the IRS ..... Is it a genuine message? I haven't used the link provided (which I've deleted). The original typeface seems to be functionally bureaucratic (ie cheap).

Dear business owners,

Due to the system error the EIN of your company has been accidently erased from the online database, please validate your EIN to reaffirm your current status of taxpayer. Certain indulgences will be applied to the next audit report for your company. IRS is sorry to cause inconvenience.

For detail information, please refer to:

When in doubt, consult the headers on the email to see where it came from. Often Russia on phishing messages. I think most email programs and services have a way of displaying the headers, but it usually isn't obvious. I had to search for the instructions for Gmail.

I'm suprised it wasn't signed:

Yours truly,
Nigerian Prince.

I particularly like the phrase:
"Certain indulgences will be applied"

Last I heard that it was from Father Bendover in the 1950's.
