One big fellow stayed sound asleep as someone clambered over him. I guess you get used to it living in such large communities. They certainly seemed to be enjoying the weather. |

Is gathering sea lettuce illegal? Here, it has sometimes proven to be a bit of a pest, albeit a natural one. Sea Lettuce - Tauranga The herring spawn reminds me of those plastic pellets, the so called 'Mermaid's Tears', which seem to be washing up all around the coast. Mermaid's Tears |

Disturbing the herring eggs in any way is illegal. It is the start of so much life here every Spring. It seems as if all the waterfowl are enjoying them right now. The gulls, the Brant Geese who are migrating through on their way to Alaska and are taking a break here, now feeding up before they carry on, leaving memories of their song and flight sounds. It's non stop activity at the shore right now. Gulls are picking through the seaweed on the rocks for fresh eggs while it seems the darker Brant geese are resting. Sea Lions rise in the water behind. The fishers have had their quota, now all else is replenishing after the long winter. Edited by Dana, Mar 12 2013, 03:50 PM.
