Harrassing Phone Calls

I have been getting weird calls, no one is there, a whistling, gibberish, ect. I called Rogers about it today and found out that they can look up the numbers that are calling me and the time. (That is a whole other discussion about gathering our private into), as well as the number that called. They confirmed my suspicions that the calls, both with ld and local rings are coming from the same place by someone using skype with a US number. Cute.

They offered to change my number for free and/or to add a feature where I can block all calls from private numbers etc. This would cost me $10 a month more.

I want to sleep on it, but I think I will go for it.

People who do this are sick, the police told me that there are many more doing this.

I wonder who I have annoyed. 017 biggrin 04 Have to say that I do have my suspicions.

I have Verizon digital phone as part of a FIOS triple play and it doesn't everything except cook my meals. Blocking calls is simple and for no extra cost.
Here in Canada, Bell is rolling out FIBE, the equivalent of your FIOS. Its available in Montreal and its on the way in Toronto!

I imagine that I will be dead and gone before its available where I live!

Well I BEGGED for FOIS for a couple years then it rolled down my street in Jersey City but my HUGE landlord was being paid off by Comcast (a common practice) and refused to allow Verizon FIOS in. I was unconsolable.
I looked at an apartment in NYC and took a year fiddling yes and no and in that year while I was on the fence...the NYC building got FIOS. I was THRILLED. It really IS special.
Iv'e got a couple hundred channels, half of them high definition with free SHOWTIME and THE MOVIE CHANNEL, a 500 gigabyte DVR and an auxiliary box that can play the DVR's stuff from the other room, a phone that can pole-dance while providing free long distance, and an internet connection that is 25 MBps up and down.
With hefty taxes and fees my monthly bite is $109. (Two year contract.) This is less than I was paying Comcast for TV with NO DVR, using a calling card for cheaper long distance with about 80 digits per phone call, and a crummy 1.5Mbps DSL line that was too slow to stream video.

My favorite phone service:
To take a nap I hit *78 and a my special nap message plays and takes messages...no ring.
*79 restores normal service.

I dont answer calls that have a number I dont recognize or one I recognize as being a marketer but , as I understand it, Darcie's problem is that she is being awakened by the call whether she chooses to answer it or not. That happens to me sometimes too and is very annoying.
I do have call display, and ignore strange numbers, but currently do not have voice mail (do not want to pay extra for something I do not really need, except for unwanted calls; my old phone incorporated an answering machine). I do not get calls in the middle of the night, so far, except form another of my grandchildren, and not that either, lately. She declared so vehemently that she wanted nothing to do with any of her family, that she can hardly call us. If it were a real emerency, I suppose we would still help her out, as we have done so many times in the past; And a thankless exercise that was, garnered us nothing but abuse. Guess every family has to have one "problem" member.
