I have no idea how to word my question. I am using two e-mail programs, AOL and Comcast + OE, with both my new iPad and my old desktop with Win XP.

I put my own e-mail addresses and my husband's in the iPad aol.com and comcast.net.

When I get up in the morning, I usually go to the old desktop. I download my e-mail and either reply to it, file it or delete it on both of my e-mail accounts.

Later in the day, when Pandora demands lap time, I climb into my easy chair with her in my lap and use the iPad. When I go to mail, not only will mail that was sent to me after the morning review be there, but mail I already deleted or filed will be there with no indication that it had ever been received or read.

How does that mail come back from the dead? How can I make it stop? Once I have read it, and replied or filed or deleted it, I don't want to see it again.

My gmail account on my tablet is the same, you have to sync the accounts.

Thanx FSG. My understanding is that Apple and Microsoft products will not "sync"

BUT, if the mail is downloaded and deleted, how can it reappear 4 hours later? Isn't it dead and buried?

Messages arrive at the mail server. You can view them in your browser (Webmail) or in a client program like Outlook Express, which downloads the messages to be viewed locally. These programs have a setting to copy or move the messages (usually called "leave messages on the server?").

Some mail servers like Gmail have push and pull options. My Gmail account is set to pull the mail from my other email account every 10 minutes and to leave it on that server so I still get them when I get the mail from there. I could set Gmail to forward its messages to another account.

It isn't deleted off the tablet or vice versa unless synced, I didn't know apple couldn't sync. With android it's settings
accounts and sync.

Maybe this will help

Some email (maybe all)programs have an option to delete the emails on the server when read or to leave them.
In my case, I have my laptop set to leave them and my desktop to delete them. The reason being that I may wish to print an email that I have read while traveling. If I had chosen to delete these, they would be history.
Therefore, they are still available when I arrive home and when I collect them for printing, they are then deleted from the server.
These options are usually available under titles such as Tools or Properties!
