As I wait for my almost new cooktop to be repaired if the part gets here before having to cook Christmas dinner here, I wrote a review of the cooktop for a Consumer site online: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/jennaire.html?review=639835#review-639835 |

Major appliances are a real problem. You don't know who is making them now, or where. We had a high end Kitchenaid gas range which was a complete lemon. The list of stuff that broke or shattered (!) is too long to list here. Now have a Bosch and very happy with it. |

Good on you, more people should take the time to write reviews of products, rants or raves, both are important. |

and I posted the same review on their Facebook site. This is their reply today:
What really gets my goat, is if you read the comments under mine from other consumers, DH and I are not the only purchasers of this cooktop with the same problem. It is really dangerous for a cooktop, especially a gas cooktop to turn itself on! |

Thank you, I will never buy a Jenn-Aire product. So odd that they have been owned by Maytag, an honorable brand, back to 1982. But then in 2006, the whole shebang became absorbed into WHIRLPOOL...maybe that is part of the problem. My god, why the governement doesn't recall a stove that turns itself on is beyond me. I had one one of the GE dishwashers whose drying heaters turned themselves on at random ( burned down houses, actually setting 3 fires in the apartment complex I lived in) and the goverement forced a recall and replacement. I have always wondered at any perceived advantage of taking a gas stove, which used to last longer than a human lifespan, and adding a gazillion electronic components all prone to failure in a heated environment...LIKE A STOVE. You would just love their reason for denying coverage under their 5 year warranty. When the burner turned itself on and I feared a gas explosion, I called a repairman who, it turns out is Jenn aire's authorized repairman for our location. But they are denying coverage because we were supposed to call Jennaire directly, so they could send out the same guy. |

BJ, you should alert someone in the media about the problem, you could save someone's life. It sounds like a design flaw to me, perhaps you might get a new stove out of it or at least be reimbursed for your time and expenses incurred. |
