Cultural differences???

An Australian man faces severe penalties in Singapore - including a caning - for allegedly swearing during an argument on board a Tiger Airways plane earlier this month.

The incident happened on January 3 on board an overnight flight from Perth to Singapore. When the plane landed, the man was arrested.

Love it. A few years ago some fat assed America kid got flogged for applying graffiti to cars on the street. Half of America was outraged and the other half was applauding. Probably split along Republican and Democratic lines.

Australia gets upset when their nationals are hung over drug offences. Singapore has zero tolerance.

Actually my daughter's family is there now and absolutely loves Singapore.

Somehow I have the impression that profanity is considered as being assault here in Canada, not that I've ever heard anyone being charged with that offense.

...... and absolutely loves Singapore.
So do I, but for very short spells. I couldn't live there, it's just too restricting.

I wonder if by 'a caning' they mean the Singapore version of the 'rotan'? If that happens I hope a good doctor is at hand, just in case of problems.
