Fake company reps.

Yesterday, at suppertime a man claiming to be a Union Gas company tech. came to my door and said he was there to inspect the furnace. I'd had the furnace cleaned and inspected in the fall and the same scam had been tried by a fake Reliance guy last year. I told him I was calling Union Gas and he was going to give me the number but I said I had it and shut the door on him. When I called the emergency gas no. there was no record of any of their people coming to this area. It was yet another scam and when I went to the door he was gone. These people are giving that little knock on the door like my sons use and you can't really distinguish features through those peep holes. Beware of gas company reps. at the door!

Isn't that illegal? Maybe a phone/camera in hand when answering the door would keep them away.

I got an email about another scam. A delivery person brings a basket with wine and other goodies but you have to pay a delivery charge of $3.50. They won't accept cash but have to have a credit card which they copy somehow or get the number with their machine. It's not safe to open the door any more. If you didn't order it, don't use the credit card!

How about the phone calls from people who say they are getting signals that my computer has problems! I've hung up on a few already.

Don't get me started on the phone calls! There's the credit card lady, the pollsters, the duct cleaners, etc. Then there are the calls at election time.

This guy at my door did look genuine with a fake ID hung around his neck. Next time I won't answer the door but if I happen to run into him I'll ask where the Union Gas truck is parked.

If I'm not expecting someone I usually don't answer the door. Didn't use to be that way.

One phone call that I can't figure out is a request to take part in an opinion survey! If I'm willing, I'm instructed to dial 'one'. If I wish to have my name removed from their call list, I'm to dial 'eight'.

As I'm unsure whether this is a scam, I just hang up!

Anybody have any idea, if this is in fact a scam?

I really have to install my chain on the door, I do have a small alarm in case it is opened, rings loud and clear but it doesn't help if you turn it off to answer the door.

Women who live alone have to be very careful, mostly they want to rob you but you never know what else they may have in mind.

Yes, Wildie, I am sure it is a scam. Don't fall for any of them.
I also get calls to send a donation for the firemen/policemen's relief association. I thought they all had wonderful insurance, etc. I guess we all know that if it is not a scam, the company doing the calling gets almost 100% of what you may donate. GRRRR!!

If you answer political polls and you don't belong to a certain party you could get misdirected to the polls with robo calls - or worse - get your tires slashed.

Had call tonight from area code '450'! They stated that I had won a trip down south worth $2500. All I had to do was dial '1' to make my claim.
I never entered a contest, so how come I won?

Another hang up for me!

I keep winning those trips too! The don't call list isn't working.

More and more, I'm avoiding answering the door when I don't expect someone. Even if it's a legitimate charity, it's not the way I want to be approached. Anyone who wants to see me can call first.

The DON'T CALL LIST only applies to calls originating in Canada. Anywhere else in the world isn't included!
