Canadian Cancer Society Niagara!

This morning I had an early appointment for a CTScan. I called the Canadian Cancer Society in Niagara for a ride to the hospital. I called them in good time. Re-confirmed my address.
I had to avoid eating, drinking for two hours prior to my appointment. I was up at 5:00am as I had to take my meds
Here I was waiting for my ride. 8:15 passed and I was worried I had to be there for 8:30 no way was that possible.
Naturally I tried calling but low & behold they don't open till 9:00am - no way to get a hold of anyone. Called the hospital my appointment had to be cancelled though re-booked for the following Monday! This was the third postponement!! The first the CT Scanner was down second snow storm third this mess today.

At 9:00am I called them wanting to find out why the driver never showed up here. She said oh but he did.... I asked where? He went to my former address. I asked why when you had all my current info on file in fact a driver came here the day of the storm only to learn my appointment was cancelled. She was apologetic. But I still wanted to find out. She went on to explain that the first address was on the schedule. Why?? She said they couldn't edit the information I said that made no sense whatsoever! What does the driver do guess between addresses? Hit & miss? I told her I had changed everything the phone was my cell phone and it did not ring. Not being able to edit was not a satisfactory explanation when this Scan is important as there was a potential problem.. The system was so disorganized the right hand was clueless what the left was doing. I seriously have to wonder how many others missed appointments due to this inept system of not being able to edit addresses....
No Roses for them sadly a brick.......

I'm sure there must be a way to edit the file. Sounds like you got someone very inept! Are the office people volunteers?

No, volunteers and employees would all sign relevant documents. It really sounds like someone did not know how to use the software.

I called to confirm my appointment for Monday, they still got it wrong.... I asked why there was such an issue in changing an address?? She said they receive calls to request rides to hospitals or what ever appointment. You are supposed to give your information at the time of the call which I did BTW... It is then passed to the transportation area given to a potential driver he/she are supposed to call to confirm your pick up Time address and location of appt.

Great but why isn't there any editing on their main roster? It only makes sense to update to prevent confusion..
This was in dealing with the Office manager. a little frustrating. You tell them you hope they got it right this time. I asked them to pick me up an hour earlier than my scheduled time just in case there is another error........ :Hmmmfrown:

No matter how good the system sounds if it isn't working properly it should be scrapped.

The VON have a ride system for medical appointments here in London, the office calls you 1 week before your appointment to confirm, then they call again the day before, then the driver calls you early in the morning of the day you have to go. When I was getting my surgery I never had a problem.

Well they managed to pick me up without too much of a problem. I had a very nice lady come for me. We talked about our families children etc. General chit chat. I didn't get out of the hospital till nearly 4:30pm She waited which was very nice.
On the way home I was tired had a bit of a headache, She began to talk out of the blue.

"Do you believe in Jesus"? Do you believe that Jesus Christ was crucified and died on the cross for all of us. Do you believe that Jesus will heal your disease will cure you of all ailments if you only convert your thoughts take Jesus into your heart and you will live in Eternity in Heaven... I'm thinking ok how much longer to home?
I really try and be polite to everyone. Each to their own beliefs. I have mine and I would never impart mine on others.
It leaves you with an uncomfortable sense while being a passenger in her car ..Frankly I thanked her but was clear I am a private person and feel religion is also private . I thanked her for her "thoughts" but never the less it continued till I reached my destination. ,

When you are driving or whatever capacity these are conversations you have to be careful about. There may be patients who have not come to terms with an illness and be totally pissed off at God and all his relatives.
I am debating whether to call Canadian Cancer Society and just give them a suggestion for future that perhaps Religion should be left out of conversations with passengers. But I don't like coming across as a can't think of the right words.....? Thoughts?

I would call Alli, that is totally out of line, you are a captive audience, not at all correct.

If something similar happens again Alli, I would just say I am an Atheist so do not wish to listen about religion. In fact I would have done so yesterday had I been in your position.

I recall an older lady who used to walk with us at the lake, and one day I mentioned politics, and she quickly put me in my place by telling me she does not discuss politics or religion, and I never brought either subject up again.

Take care,
Pat

But I'm not an Aetheist and I shouldn't have to make something up to keep her quiet.
I think there should be some do's & don'ts when you become involved
as a driver transporting people. As they say
Keep SEX POLITICS and RELIGION out off Conversations with people you don't know....

It must have been terrible to be held captive in a car and have to listen to all that propaganda. Like you, I try to be polite and tolerant.I hope that you report this.

When DH was going for a proceedure while he was in the hospital, this nurse suddenly started spouting off about prayer and salvation. I didn't want to make a scene in front of DH who was nervous already but it really was distasteful.

Alli, I think the words expressed in your post should be repeated to the organization. You stated it perfectly; religion is personal and private and you are uncomfortable in discussing these things with a stranger, even one as nice and helpful as their volunteer.

Alli I can almost guarantee it goes against their policies and they would want to know. Please tell them.

Just pepper your conversation with all the swear words that you have ever heard. That should shock her into being quiet! laugh123
