Thanks for finding that song Angora, I've sent it to my daughter in hopes she will learn it and sing and play it for the twins. |

Congratulations on your new kitties BJ . Just adorable. I have never owned an orange cat. Most of mine have been black & white They will eat it's just a change for them to get used to. When I brought my Smudge home I had a baby every time my son made a noise he ran hid behind the sofa.. They will be great for you..Nice to be adopted by these little cuties.... Congratulations! |

I went swimming at 7:45 am this morning, then plant shopping, then gardening and cat training. The kitties are eating and performing all bodily functions normally. I had forgotten how pungent the aura of young males. I may have to change their litter everyday! Still no decision on names. They may end up as Blue and Green (their collar colors) if we cannot decide soon. Blue, the bigger one, was the more adventurous today. John and I took turns sittig on the floor in the bathroom, and Blue would climb up in laps. When we left the door open, Blue would also do some serious exploring of the lower level, but Green seems really frightened. I planted my peas on St Patrick's day, but today I cut back the chard and kale that have been growing all winter, and transplanted my broccoli and cauliflower and cabbage starts, and planted purchased leek and spinach starts, and carrot and radish seeds. I am exhausted! |

The names will come, just let them learn that you and John are their people. Let them get to feel comfortable and safe with you. It seems like one name should be strong and one soft to match their personalities at the moment. Happy Easter B.J. John, and kitties. |

Thanks, Angora, that is such a sweet video. It seems like I have missed out by not having an orange cat to share my life. I don't know that I could have had a cat any sweeter than my grey/white/black Karma, she loved everyone whereas my Siamese was mine alone. As Helen said, pictures and talk of these news cats are tempting me. |

The whole CD is wonderful, Fuzzy. Ano piece on it is called, 'What the Cat Dragged In' and it is hilarious. The final song on the CD is, a version of Mamma Don't Allow that gets you up on your feet. John and I heard this on the CBC years ago and rushed right out to get a copy. It's one of our favs now. |

Red is something of a sex linked color in cats, so althought there are SOME red females, they are rare. I have never met an unfriendly red male...they are always self-possessed, brave, and unflappable...and BIG. BJ, If they are littermates, why the large difference in size? (I noticed right from the first picture.) |

I have no idea why they are different in size; they are otherwise identical. The big guy, Blue for the time being (collar color), is extremely affectionate, while Green is a bit more timid and standoffish, but if he sees Blue getting a belly rub and cuddle, he will approach timidly for his share of the love. Yesterday we left the door to the lower level bathroom open and they did some heaving duty exploration of the lower level. Our house is very open so we were luck to have an empty carton that, for the time being, serves as a gate to keep them downstairs. I had forgotten how rambunctious and smelly young male cats can be. They were neutered last week, but the litter had that really strong smell. and what a mess they make. I think they think their litter box is a sand box....letter all over the bathroom....toilet paper rool completeley unrolled and dragged everywhere..... |

Yes, red toms do seem to be large, and definitely outgoing and friendly. Taylor who was probably the love of my life, was well-known and liked in our neighbourhood. Children identified me as Taylor's mommy and would come to the door and ask if he could come out to play. It was said that your BBQ could not be deemed a success unless Taylor showed up. Oscar, who lives with me now, was a feral foundling. He is not simply affectionate, he is clingy, a huge limpet. That's often inconvenient, but I guess I don't really mind. |

They should have a litter box each, in fact one more litter box than number of cats is the recommendation I have seen, though I only have two at present. They may decide to use one each, which might be tiier, and I have had pairs of cats who between themselves decided used one for liquid waste and one for solid.

I agree, Fuzzy. We do have two boxes, one upstairs and one downstairs. They haven't been upstairs yet. |

Maybe bring the 2nd one downstairs and see if that makes things tidier? Mind you some cats just never seem to care how far the litter flies. |

I had one litter box for two female cats...and dealing with ONE box was work enough. So now I know why one kitten is skittish. He's thinking "last time I trusted a human he cut my balls off." Edited by Trotsky, Apr 1 2013, 05:33 AM.

Begette: My daughter's cat (grand kitty?) makes a mess of the floor when he uses the litter box. She now places the litter pan in a cardboard box and the litter is at least contained the the cardboard box and not tracked all over the house by cat and kids. |
