Mistress, House of Dogs
This morning when accesssing both the Globe and Mail and National Post, I received a message that I have used up my 10 free views of the respective papers. Has anyone else encountered this?

Take care,
Pat

Yes, I have that problem too. May eventually end up paying for the Globe. The NY Times gives you 10 a month too.

Many, MANY papers are following that lead that was started a while back by the New York TImes...10 per month free. The newspapers are going broke.

I get that regularly but if you clear your cookies you can start again. I clear my cookies (not whoops them) regularly, and sometimes the cache.

I don't believe that works on the NY Times website unless I am not clearing my cookies correctly.

Thanks for that tip, FSG. The National Post iPad app doesn't seem to be restricted to ten articles but I don't think it shows all the articles.

I can view any newspaper through my local library website and membership, but is an awkward view of the actual pages of the paper, no way to copy or link.

Unless you have a subscription to the Vancouver Sun you only get 10 free online viewings.

I use Firefox to view paid subscription online news. I have the browser set to clear all history and cookies on exit, so the next time I visit the same news source it starts over again.

I'm feeling just a little guilty about avoiding paying for the Post while saying investigative reporting is very important. I would be happy to contribute $50 a year but they want $120. It seems too much when I already have the right to read the whole paper through library access. A moral dilemma.

I think it is the "Postmedia" cookie. Rather than clearing all cookies (losing computer's memory of bank account numbers, etc.) you probably could just delete that one. But Dialtone's idea of using a second browser just for accessing newspapers is a perfect solution. A person really should have a second browser anyway, so you can download a new copy of your regular browser in the event it fails.

I miss the NY Times but when they started charging I quit reading it. Now I browse the internet for my news or make up my own.
