Good find, Bitsy. Actually they are a P-51 can opener, which is a bit larger than a P-38 and I have one on a key-chain and have used it when I have trouble opening a can when our regular can-opener gizzmo does not work properly (gonna hafta find a new regular can-opener gizzmo) In the old days of the military we were issued what is called a 5-in-1 ration pack, enough rations to last 5 guys for 1 day. Of course everything was in a can, except crackers (good grief..these things were packed during WWII), a chocolate bar which had turned white, and a 5 pack of ciggy-butts which could be smoked providing you smoked them in a horizontal position, cuz if you held it in a vertical position, you would loose all the tobbaco. Thank goodness someone had forsight to include something to open the cans, otherwise we would have nothing but stale crackers to eat and ciggy-butts that would loose all the tobbaco and......oh yeh...white chocolate bars. Hats off to your SIL! |

My ex hubby used to bring those in left over ration packs he would bring to the kids. Not only did they open cans but the boxes the packets of food was kept in... I remember cheeze whiz and peanut butter in a squeeze tube laugh123 |
