I downloaded and installed the new Windows 8 system upgrade, Windows 8.1 Preview (the trial copy to try out) It was a lengthy process, and it took 2 tries, but eventually it loaded up and I got to see what the new OS will look like. I downloaded it onto a spare hard drive I use for such things, and also have Acronis Image backups so I can put things back if I want. The start button is back at the bottom left of the screen, and there is easy access to shut down and restart. Internet Explorer 11 is very fast, but the trial copy didn't allow use of Firefox or Chrome.. even the google toolbar was not allowed to run. The final release for the general public will be out this fall, it will be a free update and from what I can see needs some tweaking. I put my original software back on the drive this morning via Acronis backups, and as luck would have it, the giveawayoftheday today is Start Menu X which adds the start menu button and full functionality to Windows 8 and previous Windows versions. Start menu X is a great addition for Windows 8, so if you are interested, it's a quick and easy install available at http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ .
