Can a regular member's posts be altered by admin and moderators?

I know they can be removed and hidden also. Just wondered if they can be altered and left on the site.

Thanks.

Yes. I should add that I have, on very rare occasions, corrected spelling. I try not to, but sometimes I can't help myself!

I have never had the need to do anything with member posts on the site I admin and moderate so I did not know. It is not a Zeta board so I wondered if that was possible here.

Thanks Fuzzy, you have answered some questions I had.

Speaking for myself, other than compulsively correcting a typo or spelling mistake, I would not alter a member's post without asking them to do it first.

Nothing bugs me more than having posts deleted and not being told.

Sometimes it seems the right thing to do. You might remember when an anti-Muslim chain letter was quoted in full; some members objected to it while others discussed it. I didn't think it was right to have the thing hosted on our site so I edited it out, leaving a link to it on Snopes.

Editing always leaves a note as to when it was edited and who did it.

I know that Delphi, just wondered if it could be done without notification.

I would hope moderators restrict themselves to DELETING posts that they wish to...perhaps with a PM explaining themselves, perhaps not.

BUT to change even a COMMA in another's post without being asked to do so by the poster is anathema to me. It MUST not occur, EVER. It is the height of presumptive insult.

Trotsky I am quite certan I have never touched one of yours, but on at least 10 occasions over the years I have been unable to stop myself from correcting a spelling mistake. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

The only time I edit or delete is when a member asks me to edit, or delete a double post.

A few time I have deleted double posts including one by you very recently, Trotsky, even tho a member hasn't asked, because I assume no one intentionally posts exactly the same thing twice within the same minute.

I do "hide" posts that I believe violate forum rules until Kahu has a chance to evaluate them. They are NOT deleted, though non staff cannot see them while hidden.

I do not recall ever editing a post otherwise, but I am a hopelessly bad speller myself, so misspelled words do not bother me as much as they bother Fuzzy.

I think there's a specific 12-step program. :praying.gif:
But you must start by admitting you have a problem. Denial is the enemy. :44_noo.gif: :44_noo.gif:

When the urge comes over you, have a drink instead. :wineglasssmile.gif:

I've been having these urges for years! Must be why I drink as much as I do!
