The other day I rode my bike over to my bank to get some funds. There was a truck parked there at the outside ATM machine. There was a lady using the machine while her hasband waited. When she was finished she had a hard time getting back in her vehicle so I helped her. She told me (I didn't make this up). "I hope you are not trying to get money out of that machine. It told me there was insufficent funds and I tried it twice" |

Don't laugh too loud I have had the same thing happen trying to get $100 out of a machine and it told me I had insufficient funds when I had over $1000 in the account. |

No knowledge of Canadian banking law, but US law dictates "funds availability." That refers to when funds one depositis in a bank account are available for withdrawal. Darcie - in your case, if could have been when the $1,000+ you deposited was depositied and in what form. If you deposit cash, then the funds should be available the next day; if a check, in the US it would depend in which Federal Reserve district the bank that issued the check was located, and would range from 3 to 5 days. Electronic transfers into an account are also quite fast. Banks run their "tapes" overnight and that info must be transmitted to the computer system that run ATMs. |

I had more than a thousand in the bank and it had been there a long time. I also had a line of credit with the bank that was unused. I was told later on that certain card numbers that had similar endings all got the same answer. I am assuming it was some computer somewhere. |
