Simon Cowell hunts for X Factor in third season of talent show

Quote:

In a video shot during the current auditions for The X Factor, show producer and judge Simon Cowell is asked which songs he is sick of hearing would-be stars do.

He begins naming names — “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, Katy Perry’s “E.T.,” “early Maroon 5,” Etta James’ “At Last,” any rendition of “Unchained Melody” — and undoubtedly could have kept going if he hadn’t been interrupted. When you’re Cowell, and you have sat through years of auditions for American Idol and The X Factor, musical exhaustion has to creep in.
But a bigger worry for Cowell is viewer exhaustion. A hit in England and a globally franchised concept, The X Factor begins its third season on Fox and CTV Two at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12, with yet another attempt to connect with a big audience.

I almost did not tune in last night, but can say I was in for the biggest surprise of my life. While there were many duds as there usually are at these tryouts, there were 4 contestants (one being a couple who were absolutely fantastic), a young man, a 54 year old woman who is knock down gorgeous with a voice like Whitney, the very cute couple so much in love with an delightful manner and wonderful voices, and a young woman with a disability who acts like she does not even notice the disability, and Simon went out on a limb and predicted she will be a huge hit as he did with Carrie Underwood years ago.

I endeavoured to view the video from last night's show, but alas, it is not available in Canada.

Did anyone else watch last night?

Take care,
Pat

Perhaps Simon will finally have a hit with this show this season as there is some exceptional talent. It was down to the final 40 who were divided into 4 categories - Over 25, Girls, Boys and Groups. Last night the 10 in Over 25 were whittled down to 4, and while they are all good, the 54 year old grandmother just might have the edge. She has the voice, looks and personality. I was disappointed one chap was unseated who had such a nice voice and face and was a dog walker. They commenced the Girls category and will continue with it this evening.

The Voice is definitely my preference likely because we never saw any contestants who were a downright joke as we do on AI and did on XFactor.

Take care,
Pat

This couple are just so cute, can sing, and are just the whole picture. This was their first audition for XFactor. Love the expression on Simon's face. Reminds me of when Susan Boyle first performed across the pond. Like one individual commented, I watch it once a day as it leaves me with such a good feeling.

I am sure Lilal and her hubby have to be watching this show. Tonight is when the 3 for the finals are chosen. I have been hoping Alex and Sierra make it from the beginning, but there is such good talent.

I cannot figure out why the press has not been giving this show the same coverage it has The Voice. I like both shows, but would like to see them get equal time.

Take care,
Pat

Yes, we watch both X Factor and The Voice and one thing I do not like about X Factor is the bickering between Demi and Simon. It probably is scripted in just as it was between Simon and Ryan Seacrest on American Idol but to me does absolutely nothing to enhance the show.
Paulina is a whole other item..... oooh 02 signs081 102
On The Voice Adam Levine and Blake Shelton tease each other but in a totally different way that is not so nasty.
Great voices on both shows.

Lila .... I see where Demi is not returning to the show next season. Perhaps now Simon will remain as there were rumours he was leaving due to his high salary (that might have been an excuse because he and Demi were always at loggerheads).

As I said in the Coffee Lounge, I was over the top happy that Alex and Sierra were the winners although I thought both Carlito and Jeff Gutt were fantastic, and hope they are on the path to success in the music business. From that first night I saw Alex and Sierra, there was just something about them.

I cannot figure out why none of the newspapers have given exposure to XFactor US whereas Toronto Star has written each week about The Voice.

Take care,
Pat

If Simon is right (and he did predict Carrie Underwood would become a star), Alex and Sierra have a great future before them.
