My new computer with WIN 7 has Skydrive which I think is the microsoft equivalent of iCloud. Does anyone know how it works? and whether something one saves to iCloud and simultaneously be saved to SkyDrive and reverse? |

The CLOUD concept worries me and I`m trying to avoid becoming involved with it! Storing in the CLOUD is subject to having an internet connection and if the internet isn`t available you are out of luck! I also feel that we are being corralled into being dependant on the the CLOUD providers and after they have us roped in, then they will start demanding a fee for their services. Microsoft is intending have all our computing take place in their servers. This will give them the ultimate in control. Thankfully, there are other operating system providers that will foil MS. |

I am one step removed from your sky drive concern. I just bought a new Gateway tower with Windows 8. My problem is I cant receive any emails on their OUTLOOK email page. My email outfit is no help. So how do I resolve my problem. |

What do you want to use it for, BJ? The Dropbox service definitely works on both Windows and iPad. I have it set up but only used it once when I wanted to send a 1 GB file (an MRI) to my radiologist cousin. It might be useful for transferring photos between iPad and computer, though you can do that faster with a cord. I have a nifty little memory stick called Air Stash that is a memory stick when plugged into a computer but also is a wifi service for iPad. It is fast and private but I rarely use it. I don't have a camera on my iPad. |

ARGGGG. If there is one thing worse than having to learn a completely new operating system - it's having to learn two new systems in one week. Last week I got my new computer with WIN7. Today, Apple updated my iPad to a new operating system. I am doomed!!! Delphi - two days ago I managed to copy all the photos from my iPad to the new WIN7 computers with a USB cable - piece of cake, but the new Apple system apparently allows you to send things via the iCloud to the other computer. I just have to figure out how it works. Dialtone and Wildie - today I paid the guy who built my computer to check out the big backup drive I had purchased a few years ago, and teach me how to use it, as I never could figure the damn thing out. In one hour I had a complete copy of my new computer's hard drive, OS and all data files, and if I can remember to plug it in, it will automatically back up every Sunday at 7 pm! So I really do listen to your advice and follow it. Thank you. Dogleg - I am sorry I can't help you. Maybe one of the others can....good luck. |

Thats the weak link in a backup system. You can have the fanciest hardware known to man and it will be all for naught, if you don't use it! I speak from experience, as I'm not good at remembering either! |
