One of the main reasons I prefer this show, in addition to the fact the coaches have no idea what the contestant looks like, is the camaraderie of the coaches.

Not being an Emmy voter, I can't tell you why The Voice unseated The Amazing Race as Best Reality Competition Program on Sunday (although I'm glad it did). I can only say why it's a winner with me and that's because it consistently entertains, even though the spinning chairs gimmick is old hat now and the audition shows are about as formulaic as rival American Idol's.

Watching Monday's two-hour Season 5 premiere felt like settling in for a catchup with an old friend. There was laughter, there were moments that moistened the eyes, there were old jokes, there were interesting new voices and an overall sense of comfort.

Nigel Lythgoe may huff and puff about how Idol is “the first (and) the best” of the reality competitions, but The Voice is like the cooler, younger sister who borrows your favourite outfit and looks way better in it. It's no wonder Emmy wanted to hang out with that.

Monday's premiere brought the return of coaches Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. It seems like a season away did them good; Green was more forceful in fighting for singers for his team; Aguilera seemed a little humbler and less annoying (so far); and all four coaches were getting along like a house on fire.

Am I the only member here watching this show? A friend of mine watched it last night for the first time, and I think she is sold on it.

Where is Lilal? I wonder if she is watching The Voice and what her opinion is.

As I have said previously, there are none of the silly performances by people who think they can sing. The only drawback I find, and it is the same with every reality show, is the time spent on commercials where one has enough time to make a tea or whatever, visit the loo and so on.

Take care,
Pat

It comes on at the same time as Dancing with the Stars, so I watch that instead.

I have watched DWTS for years, and the last couple of seasons switched back and forth, but decided I would rather go with The Voice. It gives me such a lift.

Take care,
Pat

If what I read somewhere is right Lilal, they are going to change about each season, and next one Shakira and Usher will return. I am with you and prefer them.

Take care,
Pat

I am so glad to see that Cassadee Pope, winner in 2011 on The Voice, is finally making it.

Cassadee Pope knows the power of 'The Voice'

Cassadee Pope now truly understands the power of television.

The 2012 winner of the third season of The Voice just released her debut solo country album, Frame By Frame, and it debuted impressively at No. 9 in the U.S. and No. 16 in Canada. (On the country charts it was No. 1 and 2, respectively).

After a couple of years of slugging it out with the pop-punk band Hey Monday and opening for the likes of Fall Out Boy, the 24-year-old L.A.-based singer - who co-wrote all 13 tracks of Frame By Frame with writers in Nashville - couldn't be happier.

"I definitely thought (The Voice) was my last big shot," says Pope, who was signed to an imprint of Big Machine Records - home to Taylor Swift - in Nashville after her Voice victory.

I look forward so much to Monday and Tuesday evening so I can watch The Voice. Last night the first 10 performed, and tonight we will see the final 10 with the results being shown Thursday evening when they wil be reduced to 12. Lilal, are you still watching?

Last week I heard that XFactor U.S. is not doing as well as Simon Cowell had expected, and next season he might step down as judge as his salary is so huge and he could be replaced by a judge with a much less salary. Plus he wants to be across the pond after his son is born.

The Voice seems to be much more popular than XFactor in North America.

Watched Dancing With the Stars last night and recorded The Voice to watch tonight as well as recording tonight's. We are watching X-Factor too but neither of us enjoy the judges/mentors as much as ones on the Voice.

I watched DWTS, I love the energy. The Voice is one show I watch if I remember it is on; now I want to watch it because there are fewer contestants which makes it easier to recall them. I did watch most of AGT, figured out who would win early on - he did - but wanted the 3 tenors, Forte, to win. I see they have a CD dropping - if one can drop a CD - next week, I actually ordered one. My daughter said she could just download the music, however I feel that is not fair to upcoming, sort of mainstream, not to mention excellent, musicians. Besides, I have no idea how to listen to downloaded music on my phone! No lessons necessary, I also do not want to.

I agree Lilal. I do not like the judges as much on XFactor either (other than Simon that is biggrin 04 ). I do not have any way to record these shows so this year have not watched DWTS as I want to watch The Voice.

I had hoped to watch NCIS tonight, then check what is on in the way of some of the talent shows however it seems the cable is on the fritz. So infuriating. I finally said fine I will do a search online although I always feel that is not really allowed. At least it will be after the shows have been on.

Pat you really have to get yourself a DVR. Then you wouldn't have to miss DWTS.

I know FuzzyO ..... I have a DVD Player but that's all. Does one have to have a box to record? I only have the basic stations. Last night I even missed 3/4 of The Voice as I could not stay awake. 015

Take care,

It's attached to your television and you just operate it with your remote control. You don't need discs or anything, it's not like the old VHS recordings where you had to put a tape in. A really nice feature is that you can pause a show while you are watching it in real time if you get a phone call, or someone comes to the door or something. You can also replay something while you are watching it in real time, so if you are not quite sure you heard or saw something you just go back and watch again. I am not explaining very well, but everything is being recorded temporarily plus you can set something to be recorded so that you can watch it later.
