Never have I seen such a large flock of geese walking in the city as I did this morning, They were preparing to cross a street, and one goose was gingerly stepping out into the roadway. Usually, I would come back this same route, but decided I had better find another way as there was roughly 200 Canada Geese in this flock. What would one do if they were walking across in front of your car? I mean it could take some time I would think for them all to get across.

Decided to check out why they would walk rather than fly, and this is what I came up with:

Take care,
Pat

That is interesting. On the issue of a 'lookout', it is always easy to spot him/her in the fields next to us. The lookout goose stands apart from the others and does not feed. Smart little guys.

We had a mother and 12 chicks, yes 12, cross a 4 lane highway single-file every morning and bring traffic to a halt. Daddy brought up the rear.

They were delightful.

Canada geese are truly beautiful. When they are in large numbers grazing, humans cannot lounge around in their habitant due to the large amount of faeces on the ground.

Imagine if cows had wings and camped everywhere, as do Canada geese.

We call them 'flying pigs'! There's an Open Season on them year round for shooters!

They sure could feed a lot of people with those geese.

I wonder why they are protected?

A lot of them would go missing should a real depression ever hit.

It's too bad people are so Bambi-ish about animals.

More than one community that I know of is over run with domestic rabbits, released by idiot owners. They breed like, well, rabbits, eat everything in sight and attract coyotes and cougars into residential areas.

We should just trap and eat them.

Same with geese.

One person in a thousand or ten thousand would eat a Canada goose. Competition is severe pizza, KFC, Mac's, Tim's,spaghetti, etc.

Some CPC member suggested culling and placing in food banks. Your laugh for the day.

Even if only one in 10,000 ate a goose, we could be knocking them off 3500 at a time.

I wonder if you could corral the bastards and shove corn meal down their throat to produce fois gras-sized livers? Could be a huge delicacy.

Guess everyone wants their own Trudashians
New York feeds them to the poor, why not, it’s good food. Too many geese are a health hazard and the goose hunt has been extended here and south of the border.

Actually I believe it was a Toronto city councillor who suggested feeding them to poor and there’s nothing wrong with it, except Ontario can’t use them. other provinces have no problem accepting wild game meats:

And yes, I've eaten them myself many times.
