I have heard this also! Never the less, the hand became infected and antibiotics were required to affect a cure! If dog saliva is good for injuries, how come thet don't keep dogs in hospitals? |

The only time I had an infected cut was after getting nicked by a dog's tooth while feeding it tidbits. Maybe the healing licking needs to come NOT right after a dog has been licking its rear end! |

Although dog saliva might have some healing properties, the tartar on dog's teeth is rife with bacteria. A dog bite that breaks the skin will deposit bacteria into the deeper skin layers, and no dog bite is a clean cut, it is a tearing, jagged wound. In my case, the middle of the bite healed first, but on the outside edges where the canine teeth penetrated down, it took a lot longer to heal and even after a couple weeks I was still having to clean it. |

When my dog bit me out of the blue, I did not approach him, he came at me, my hand was very infected for a long time. |

We always use betadine for cat scratches - very messy and a dreadful colour, not sure it can be purchased at drugstores anymore. Just today Mozzy started to run amok as he seems to do every so often - I think something spooked him this time. I have learned to just steer clear of him until he calms down before picking him up. |
