Interesting dog MRI research on CBC radio the Current this morning.

Most people lack the patience to train Fido to roll-over and play dead. But neuroscientist Gregory Berns convinced his dog, Callie, to happily sit still in a M.R.I. scanner. He got such an unexpected image of the dog's active brain, it made Dr. Berns' brain more active as well. He's gone on to train and test a dozen dogs to be good test subjects.

Nothing particularly new; obviously dogs have emotions, memories.

Then they put the bioethicist on. He thinks this research shows dogs and probably cows and chickens are sentient. They all need more rights.

It is municipal election day in Alberta, making me wonder about our dogs voting. The beagle would love any candidate who gave her a treat! Hmm, maybe not so different from humans.
