Got good reviews from the Film Festival in Toronto ... NZ Premiere tonight in Wellington. Conquering Everest on film Posted Image In tackling Sir Edmund Hillary's successful 1953 ascent of Everest, director Leanne Pooley faced raised expectations, heightened sensitivities and the unique challenges of filming at altitude. Recreating Mt Everest in the Southern Alps for the necessarily dramatised scenes in Beyond the Edge meant relying on the weather gods to play ball. "We had to chopper in and so we'd wake up every morning and not be sure if we could get to it," the Canadian-born Pooley admits ahead of Beyond's New Zealand premiere in Wellington on Tuesday. "One morning the place I was going to shoot had melted, it simply wasn't there anymore." ..... "Sometimes we were standing on the edge of 1000-metre drops so we were all clipped to safety lines - it looked like a giant dog park. "I literally had a safety guy hanging on to me because if anyone was a candidate for falling off the mountain it was me because I get a bit distracted and I'm a bit of a klutz anyway."
