A dear friend who was an addict of all things Beattle died several years ago. What a wondertful addition to his collection this book would have been.

Whether or not the Beatles were bigger than Jesus remains a moot point. But that hasn't stopped seasoned Beatles writer Mark Lewisohn penning what is shaping up to be the bible of all things Fab – a three-volume definitive history.

I loved the Beatles and my adult kids remember when I called them into the living room to see them for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show. We were privileged to enjoy so much great music back then compared to the bland stuff of today where it's all about skimpy costumes and twerking.

I liked the Beatles but loved John Lennon. Gone too soon.

Never forget the first time I saw them - on the TV in England. My husband and I looked at each other and said 'who the heck are this lot':):)

They sure looked scruffy !

They looked quite neat and tidy when I saw them on TV but their hair was longer than we were used to here.

Helen - the Beatles had cleaned up by the time we saw them on this side of the water.

Years before that, I was 15 or 16, Elvis appeared on the Jimmy (or Tommy) Dorsey show. I was watching it with my mother and father. We all rolled around laughing at his gyrations. I never did really join the Elvis craze because of that memory.

I loved Elvis too. He was a breath of fresh air and his music is still played and imitated so he must have done something right - as did the Beatles. The songs had melody and we could hear the words. They were all true originals.

When I bought my first Beatle record, my mother shook her head and told me that this music was just a novelty and would never last. Well, Mother was very wrong.
I still have memories with Beatle music playing in my mind.

I still own that very first Beatles album, and loved their music from the first time I heard them on the radio.

Never cared for Elvis, either, Angora.

I remember exactly the corner I was stopped at for a red light in the Fall of 1963 when I changed radio stations and I heard for the first time I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND. I had never heard anything like it, and had never heard of the Beatles but at that moment I KNEW that the course of popular music in the entire world had shifted.
That moment is frozen in my memory and I even remember the look of the Diner to my right the slight hill I was parked on, the dashboard of my beautiful Buick Roadmaster convertible. The word thunderstruck doesn't begin to approach what I felt...near ecstasy.

They were unique in the way that Beethoven and Wagner were unique.

You captured it beautifully, Trotsky. Such simple lyrics with so much meaning.

Ditto what Trotsky said. I was on the front porch of my then best friend, Angie, and that song came on the radio and made us feel so ....HAPPY.
