I lost a document I was working on. It isn't in the recycle bin as far as I can tell. It still shows up on the document list but nothing comes out in spite of it showing 9KB of content. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What are the last three letters of the file name?

What kind of file is the document saved in?

Excel? Microsoft Word? or some other type of file?

Campy: The document was created with 'open office ' and the last three letters of the file name are 'oom'.

I don't have Open Office on my computer so I can't help you out.

Would this link help. It has something to do with memory.

No luck. I guess I am beat. I notice there is software you can download to find lost documents but don't know how good it would be. My document was saved and changed many times over a week or so and disappeared when I was adding a cover page. Very strange . I thought it would be in the desktop somewhere.

If you know all or part of the file name, try searching your C drive for it. In XP you right click on the C drive in My Computer and choose "search". Type in the file name and press Enter. No doubt Win 7 has an improved method.

Windows can also search for text within files.

The Windows recent documents list shows the shortcuts in the recent documents folder in your profile folder. It can be fooled by deleting or moving a file so the shortcut no longer points to it. Open Office has a similar list of recently opened documents. It will not know about moves or deletes made outside OO.

If it's really important would a restore work?

I have never done it so I have no idea.
