I have been a Bell customer for many decades, but no more.

The service is not good, but what is unconscionable is their practice of gouging loyal, long standing customers while offering bargain rates and freebies to lure newcomers.

Within a couple of days we will jettison the lousy and exorbitant satellite tv service, the Internet and the phone.

We will have an antenna for over the air channels and Netflix for a idea choice choice. Total cost: about eight bucks a month.

For phone and Internet we re going to teksavvy, a highly rated discounter. I think the total here is about 90 bucks for all the bells and whistles. Right now with bell we ate paying in excess of 250 bucks a month.

I'll be interested in hearing how that works out. The main reason I don't want to give up Bell is because I don't want to lose my Sympatico e-mail address, other than that I'd be happy to switch I think.

I dropped Bell a couple of years ago. Their billing practices are slimy and they have to be amongst the most slimy Corporate structures around.

I had sympatico from day one and finally gave it up. I liked my mail address but one gets use to others in a short time. Now I have Primus. The ISP's with cell phones are slimy, but Bell was unconscionable.

My first Cell phone I was paying hundreds per call and eventually threw the phone in the garbage. They chased me for several years since I has signed as phoney 15 page contract. I guess they finally gave up.

Now I have a land line for internet and a cell phone. Both together are about 100 per month.

FuzzyO: Many people use their hotmail, yahoo or gmail as their permanent email so it is not a problem to switch carriers.

Yes Erka, I do have a gmail and a Yahoo address, it's just that the Sympatico one goes back about 18 years and there are people who know it and use it occasionally.

I have Bell land line, Bell cell phone, Bell internet and Bell satellite. Last week I called them about buying a new satellite receiver. $200 worth!
I told the service rep what I wanted, then she asked me if i would like to rent the $500 PVR for $15 a month. I own my other boxes, and I was reluctant to rent and pay the $75 install fee.
She said that they will give me a monthly credit of $15 to negate the rent and will wave the install charge. The contract runs for 5 years.
They offered this because I use all Bell services, and I get to use this top of the line unit for 5 years for nothing!

Bell's cell phone service is too much, I do agree and when my contract is up, I plan to look elsewhere for cell service.

I have experienced Rogers, they stink, each bill brought forth an argument and each call a different result for the same issue.

I dumped them, and went to Bell fought like an idiot to get the price the agent had told me it would be, but true to their 'contact us' office they have rectified everything and it is consistently correct.

I do have TV (second lower bundle), Unlimited Internet and home phone which I am dumping in January. I pay about $102 a month. My cell is Fido and I recently got some sort of gadget with a home line from them for $10 a month and unlimited Canada LD. Compared to Bell's $24 + it is a bargain.

I am happy with my Internet speed, it is far superior to Rogers and have had no problems compared to Rogers which seemed to always go down.

Looking forward to hearing how it all works out Heat.

I talked to Telus the other day about getting a DSL internet service for the residents at long term care. The lady had no problem with sharing it to all the residents & guests and did not require it to be a business service (double the cost) or require a telephone service with the DSL but said $40 for the slowest speed. I said I was paying $40 for the ultra fast speed. Yes, she said, that's because you're a long time customer. That's the first time I've heard that - usually the new customer rate is much lower for the first year. Has anyone quit, and got a new service in your spouse's name to take advantage of that?

Every so often you have to call Bell and threaten to go elsewhere, then they knock off a few bucks. Last time they cut the bill by $15. It's annoying but I can't get the whole package with any of the other companies since the condo makes a deal for cable. I can't use the cable co. for the phone since it would involve going to the condo. board to have cable brought in the other side of the house. Technology has made life complicated.

Haili, I have a gadget from Fido (cost me $10 from my FIDO dollars) and I have a home phone for $10 a month with unlimited long distance in Canada.

What is more interesting is that I just unplug this and bring it with me wherever I travel in Canada and have my home phone with me at no extra cost at all. Only requires that you plug it in an electrical outlet and that you plug in a wireless phone .

To me $10 a month is reasonable for unlimited calls across Canada and a portable phone.

How do you plug in a WIRELESS phone?

Each wireless phone, no matter the system has to have the 'mother' phone plugged into the phone line, the rest of the family just are plugged into a wall socket.

Instead of a phone line the phone is plugged into the gadget, no phone lines. The rest of the family of phones is handled as usual with any other phone line, Bell or Rogers or....

This link will show how. I am a fido Customer so I paid $10 for the device with FIDO dollars and pay $10 a month for the service.
