Did we all get the rollout of I.E.11. We got it, last week on the desktop and this morning on the laptop. It caused chaos with Outlook WeB Access and after grinding around for hours and enlisting several others I found an elegant solution. SO if anyone else has the same problem just holler. |

The only problem I have had so far is that now when I have read something on this forum the indicator still shows it as unread. I have to refresh each time. Annoying. |

Well, it REALLY did a job on Outlook Web Access. (Partner needs it daily to pretty much run the Senior Center's theater department from home.) I assume Microsoft will soon have some patches because OWA is the communication system of most colleges and the complaints will soon become deafening. Edited by Trotsky, Nov 28 2013, 03:17 AM.

I have saved my update, and though I very rarely use IE, I will not install till I hear some positive reason why to do so.

Trotsky, I can access Outlook on the web with IE11 no problem. You might want to try turning off the compatibility settings and see how that works, although I can access Outlook with any setting. Edited for Darcie, if you want a reason to update Internet Explorer to 11, it is the fastest and safest version yet developed. In the latest ratings, it is the top (for now, since the browser wars are ongoing) Edited by Dialtone, Nov 28 2013, 04:23 AM.

Sounds like a good reason DT, will it mess around my other browsers? |

I'm using IE 11 on my Win8.1 laptop without a problem. I have yet to check my Win7 desktop! I accept automatic updates from Windows! Edited by wildie, Nov 28 2013, 04:48 AM.

No, browsers are stand-alone programs that work independent of each other. I have IE 11, Firefox, and Chrome on all our PCs, they all work as browsers and each have their own advantages. It's good to have a couple browsers (at least) so you can compare how one works vs another. |

Most browsers are stand alone. IE is different. It is tightly integrated into the OS. I have no reason to believe it will interfere or alter any other browser experience but it shouls always be kept up to date and should never be removed. It doesn't much matter if you ever deliberately use it, parts of it are necessary. |

I have found that my two Win8.1 machines are using IE11! The Win7 is stillat 10. In view of some of the complaints, I'm undecided on whether to upgrade or not? |

I tried that first. Restore worked perfectly but within a few minutes it took the critical update again and the Premium Outlook OWA cloud connection reverted to Basic, a significant loss of capability. I checked on updating choices and it seems you can prevent auto loading of IMPORTANT or OPTIONAL updates but NOT CRITICAL updates and from the behavior of our 2 machines, I gather the I.E.11 came in with the critical update, last week for the desktop and Tuesday for the laptop. (Is that a mandatory critical update acceptance new with Windows 7?) wildie, I am going to bet that your Win 7 machine will get the update very soon. The real spooky is that we have the laptop set to check for updates on Wednesday at 3AM. The laptop is NEVER booted up at 3AM but still the updates bang their way in. Dialtone, Try to compose a message and tell me if you have the FORMATTING BAR. If not that means you have reverted to OWA "LIGHT" or, in the "ABOUT" display, from Premium to Basic. Anyhoo part of the brilliant Hungarian's work-around involved turning ON compatibility mode and then making the particular website that is the core of program for 5 volunteers part of our Local INTRANET. Here's the step-by-step workaround <if I can find it again.> http://gyorgybalassy.wordpress.com/2013/07/05/use-owa-in-full-version-with-ie11/ Edited by Trotsky, Nov 29 2013, 02:32 AM.

I usually access my Outlook mail from a shortcut on my IE11 favorites bar, everything including formatting seems OK. Using the Win 8 Mail app, I can access either my Outlook or Gmail, all is OK there as well.. including formatting. I am using Windows 8.1 for my main PC, but have Win 7 on my laptop. On my laptop, Internet access to my Outlook mail via IE11 with Windows 7 functions as before, no issues with formatting.. regardless of compatibility settings. Using Windows Live mail access on either PC for Outlook, Live or my ISP mail also works as before, formatting included. |

You all might try downloading Opera web browser. I don't ever use I.E. or Firefox anymore. It's fast even on a tablet. |
