I know good when I see it. Nothing good in waiting, what for, the benefit of the companies who have been doing this, what the heck give them more time to do it to us over again. I know crap when I see it. |

Read the link. There is a challenge. Also the companies need time to switch the contracts when they are up. You know crap? You know zilch. |

I'm given to believe that these new regs. apply to new contracts only. And that existing contracts cannot be canceled until 2015. My contract matures in August of 2014. I had hoped to terminate it now and am disappointed find that I must continue to be gouged by the telco for another 8 months. Lets face it, the capital expense for cell service is a fraction of what is necessary for wired service. Wired service is profitable for a nominal fee of perhaps $40/month, so obviously wireless providers are raking in the profits at the expense of the Canadian public. Common thieves are stopped from stealing when they are apprehended, and the cell phone company's should have been ordered to seize and desist immediately! |

I don't understand why people like the restriction to two year contracts. Now they have to pay for their smartphones over a shorter time, so the monthly payment will be higher. The other items look good - particularly caps on what have been ridiculously high charges for data over the plan and roaming. And unlocking the phone so you can switch companies without throwing the phone away.

Cell phone service costs billions to run and maintain. IMO, the biggest bandit is the Government who auctions off the spectrum to carry the cell phone signals, yet the "air" doesn't cost them anything, basically true "money for nothing". Every time there is a spectrum auction, the Cell phone companies cough up billions for the right to use the frequencies, these billions go right into government coffers. On top of the spectrum, the admin and maintenance of those thousands of cell towers, data equipment, national coverage, billing, and CRTC mandates all go into the price of cellular service.... and of course the companies must remain profitable to remain in business. Although a lot of business people, texters, tweeters, and runatthemouths wouldn't be without a their smart phones, no one is being forced to own one. |

If the companies in the US can make profits with a lower fee, what is so inept with Canadian companies that they have to gouge us to make a profit? And pray tell why should one accept to be taken by these money grubbing companies? I should not be forced to be scammed. |

All cars made in Canada are exported and sold cheaper in the US than Canada.. if you want to talk about being gouged and scammed. Why is that ? And yet, Canadians buy millions of GMs, Fords, and Chryslers, is anyone forcing the people to buy cars ? If you don't want a specific car, don't buy one... same with cell phones. I pay $10 a month for my cell phone, it sits in my vehicle most of the time, and I don't feel gouged or scammed at all. |

I put $25 in my cell every two months. I use it for emergency purposes only, or to call my daughter when I arrive at her apartment building, and she comes down to meet me. In January I am going to commence paying $100/year (new plan they have out) which will save $50 yearly over what I am currently paying. Unlike many of my friends, I feel no need to talk on a cell all the time. Take care, Pat |

But how does this compare with wireline phone service, Fred! Wireline has physical assets such as poles, terminals, repeaters, carrier systems, remote digital distributers, digital central offices etc. The list goes on and on. The wireline network has of course been put in place over the course of time and in fact is probably been paid for years ago. However, its value is many times over what the cost of the cell network would be. The real reason for the disparity is that the CRTC controls the cost of wireline service, whereas the cell service has no control and the providers are free to charge what ever the traffic will bear! |

Does anyone remember when the price of sugar skyrocketed? People just stopped buying it. Then the price came down. I don't understand why people have to switch phones just because the colour changes? Stop buying expensive cell phones and contracts and the price will come down as it has in the U.S. |
