It truly used to be just like that at social functions here, especially in the country areas. We used to decorate the local church hall walls with fern fronds ... it was always "Men £1 and Women 'a plate'". Meaning the men always paid a cash entry for hiring the hall and the women brought a plate laden with food which made up the the contribution for the evening's supper. We used to use sterling £sd in those days not $and c.'Bring a plate' always caused a lot of problems with new immigrants, and amusement for the locals too! All the girls used to sit on one side of the hall and boys eyed them from the other side. Edited by Kahu, Dec 12 2013, 10:17 AM.

I think Scotch and Soda, which has been mentioned, is the sexiest drinking song I know. Always loved The Kingston Trio. |

That happened here also! Must be a human trait! Guess it was a signal saying 'I'm here and available'! |

Trouble is that is the most obnoxious tasting drink ever conceived. Like something to remove varnish. |

You are so right there, Trotsky. I had read that it was 'sophisticated' so I tried one at a party my parents were giving. I took it outside, took a sip, spit it out and poured it on the lawn. That was it for scotch and me. Turned to rye and soda after that. You probably wouldn't like that either. |

Oh, I like a good Scotch but either with water or if it is really good over shaved ice. I just know that one day soon I will get a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue laugh123 |

Scotch over ice or even with water has been my hard drink for many years, way better than the gin and tonic I used to drink previously. |

My friends always said I ruined scotch when I mixed it with ginger ale. I got that from my Grandmother. Take care, Pat |
