Red and Blue's first Christmas

DH and I had been agonizing, as you already know, over whether or not to even try a Christmas tree this year given the "inquisitive nature of The Spawn of Satan. The owner of the pet supply store in our town recommended a device that is a motion detector and horn attached to the top of canned air. Battery powered, it emits a loud noise and a blast of air if anything comes within its ability to detect motion. It arrived this morning, so after the garden club lunch, we set up the tree and turned it on. See small canister in middle of tree on the floor and Blue approaching:

and then - a loud noise and a blast of air:

whew....that was close. Time for a rest. I think we will enjoy the tree from afar...til we figure out how to destroy that THING:

What do you do when you are sleeping? Will this not wake you up also?

You could turn it off but it will defeat the purpose will it not?

I haven't finished coffee yet, but there must be a solution I am not onto yet.

They've grown into beautiful cats. bj. You really made a good pick there. And, just so he wont have to brag himself, Heatseeker has a an absolutely magnificent cat, grey and fluffy with an adorable white spot on the side of her nose. Maybe, if asked nicely, he'll show us a picture.

There is a beautiful car hanging around here, a little too tame to be a wild one. I know what I would do if I could get my hands on whoever drops them up. There are no barns here and it was -29C here last night.

Margrace if you have a crate and a couple of cardboard boxes you can make a shelter. Put it right against the house or under a porch to take advantage of any shelter and warmth being give off.

Beautiful cats BJ. I guess I have been lucky as my two have not bothered with the tree. This year I am not putting one up.

Here are two cats and a tree, not as pretty as yours but it reminded me of the pic of them in the chair.

Just reporting in that the tree is still vertical. We heard the horn only once during the night.

Fuzzyo I thought of that. We put all our kitchen waste including meats etc out in our open sided compost. But we have a family of skunks who live off that and I don't want to encourage them to come closer to the house. Skunks are completely safe as long as you let them alone I have found and they are interesting to watch. I put some food out for that cat but the ravens take it.
We have a little cat who was dropped off along with her brother in Oct. She just moved in and her brother was taken in by the neighbours but there are a lot of cats wondering around her, again last night it was -29C.
We call our cat Spook and like BJ's cat she was rescued but we cannot take them all.

I predict you will not be getting much sleep the second half of December.

Margrace I imagine the skunks already have a burrow somewhere. I hope the cat has found a spot. I made a little shelter for a feral fellow who used to hang around my old house. For a couple of winters he used it. Gradually he started to come in to eat in the cold months, and after a couple of years he came in to spend the night, and then off he'd go in the morning and return after dark. I saw him rarely in the summer months, but when I did he always acknowledged me. Come winter he'd be back to spending the night indoors until one day he never returned. Never found out what happened to him, but at least for a few years he had food and warmth when he needed it.

Our shelter here on the Island's new building plans include an outdoor shelter area for ferals. It will be an outdoor area with leanto type structures containing food and water which we hope will enable shelter staff to capture some ferals long enough to neuter and set free.

I hope they manage to trap all who show up BJ. Trap, neuter, release programs are so important.

Speaking of a pair of feline nuisances, I would very much like to have a little nap on the couch. Can't be done, the space is completely occupied by two cats. They are a bit like water, they manage to flow to fill existing space.
