I had 2 full grown poodles and a Yorkshire Terrier, they were all friendly and very nice to my kids, loving etc. etc. etc .

I used to give a bite of my bacon in the morning to the Terrier, one morning I had none and he bit my hand and would not let go.

I guess it was treated too well and was very angry that I had no bacon.

The dog was over 5, had been to the vet and was brought there afterwards, no problems. This was totally out of character to the dog.

In this case I am with Campy, my grandfather thought similarly about dogs and no small child was ever left alone with a dog.

Hmmmm ..... have you ever had a dog? Doesn't much sound like it.

Take care,
Pat
Yes I had a doh and I look after one when the owners go on vacation. To make blanket statements about dog behaviour is kidding yourself.

I do believe there are exceptions to every rule. After all, we treat Red and Blue with great love and affection and they are terrors, but I do believe Darcie's experience is the exception.

I remember being shocked to learn our insurance company would not insure us for liability if we owned a Rotweiller. When we lived in Africa, our good friends who had children our son's age had one and the children rode that dog as if it was a pony. ANd that dog thought our son and our friends' children were her own pups, and woe to anyone who came near them!

In my opinion dog's behaviour can be described as unpredicable. I love animals but I cannot fully trust them.

It is a well known fact that one should not leave small children with a dog(s). I have had dogs since 1963, and our house was always filled with young kids from the mid 60s to the 80s, and in the nine years I have resided here, and having had 5 puppies during that time, once again we had the young children of all my daughter's friends. The only thing we had to be careful of was two of the dogs were so large that they could easily knock a small child down. All the kids were taught by us never to walk around with food in their hands.

Dogs are just like children and have to be taught what is right and what is wrong and what is not acceptable behaviour.

Take care,
Pat

Dogs are descendants of wolves. There is no way you can breed instinct out of them.

The dog can't communicate either to let you know what is wrong.

The dog I look after has some funny habits or preferences.

For instance in the hottest day in summer he won't drink water out of his bowl, but he will drink water out of the hose.

I tried everything but i couldn't figure out why.

And then when I come out of the bathroom he growls at me for some reason and no other time.

He is a lovable creature though and I really enjoy his company.

When his owners take him for a walk they let him pull them all over the place.

I trained him to walk beside me without any strain on the leash at all and if other dogs are coming down the path I tell him to sit and stay and he does until they pass.
