DL, open your control panel, then windows defender. You should have a green check, and an onscreen message saying your PC is being monitored and protected.

Beside my previous post above, don't know if you saw my reply about your other problem of having to log in when your computer comes out of sleep mode. Have a look at this http://s7.zetaboards.com/Worldwide_Seniors/single/?p=8632162&t=8878878

DT : Thanks. Yes it shows it is activated. Now for the rest of the story. I tried to delete Norton but couldn't so I contacted the Gateway cust. help chat (New Delhi) and he said he can't get rid of it either. Upon further search he found over twenty entries in my 'RUNDLL process information files'. Evidently someone has access to my computer. Now what do I do? The nightmare continues.

Go to the Norton site and do a search on their site for "Norton Removal Tool". It is a tool that will remove all traces of any Norton product.

I doubt anyone has access to your computer other than you. DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries ) are necessary for the running of your PC, so I have no idea what Sandeep was trying to tell you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815065

As per Reactivates advice, download the Norton Removal tool, at https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us (step 1). Once all is done, go into your Windows Defender and do a complete scan.

Sandeep was trying to get you to let him fix your computer for a fee. So he tells you that you have all those twenty entries that are perfectly normal.

LOL. Could be my man in Delhi was trying to run a scam on me. He said there would normally be only one or two DLL in the registry and for a couple hundred bucks they would 'try' to fix it. I have too many miles on me to get caught in that game. I will go to the Norton site to find out how to get rid of their code. What a corrupt system this internet has become. If bricks and mortar businesses tried to operate like these thugs do they would all be in crowbar hotel.

Yeah,
I like the MR. BEAN also.

I get viruses caught and removed all the time.
Reminds me to run a full scan. I have them scheduled automatically for 3AM on Wed. but the computer is almost always off at that time.

I am having trouble confirming that Windows Defender is active. Can someone help with this please.
Defender has a APP in Control Panel! Click on it and when it opens it will state its status!

They are not supposed to do that. They are supposed to represent the company you contact. This is a scam. Unless you report them they get away with it.
