Yesterday, I posted a plea on Facebook asking for advice on redecorating. Red and Blue have shredded our 3 year old sofa and love seat. We tried everything, tape, sprays, nothing keeps them from their appointed duties. Yes we do clip their nails and no, we would never even consider declawing them. So we have been interviewing decorators, but I think we have them stymied....fabric that is impervious to cat claws and no materials that off gas (for me). Drivera had the best suggestion: Kevlar, but I can't seem to find out if it off gasses. Anyhow, Drivera knows how upset I am, so posted this on my Facebook page and it really made me laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6CcxJQq1x8 |

Do your cats show fear over some object? Ron is using a cane and my 2 do not like it.and skirt around when he leaves it leaned up by the sofa or were ever. If there was an object you could set it on your sofa or chair. |

cats get used to canes, unless of course you hit them. I know Ron would never do that. Nor bj. I think the only thing to do about scratching furniture is just to develop the mindset that cats are more important than inanimate objects and let the stuffing all hang out. :) |

Just keep what you have, why change, they will do the same to whatever out put there. The money would be wasted so why not give the money you would spend on a new sofa etc. and give it to animal rescue? |

I was amazed at the shabbiness of my MIL's living room furniture fabrics which were also damaged by her cat. Once, she had to offer an executive that they were entertaining a lint remover as he had sat upon the cat's chair. Top execs of a large corporation had to be entertained when in town and I don't think they ever noticed the furniture as they were so well taken care of by their hosts. If you do find anything that is claw proof, I have a friend who would be interested to know what that is, too. |

I don't think BJ would go for the staples required to keep booties on a cat. ;) |

Do you realize a cat manicure costs more than a human manicure? |

How much for humans? My daughter is a groomer and charges $20! |

Does your daughter make house calls? Here, they charge about the same, but a manicure for a human can be less depending on what you have done and where. |

Pashminas for across the tops. Mozzy does not do a great deal of furniture scratching, never has, but seems to like the back of one chair so I put a shawl across it - works like a charm. My mother's lovely sofa she bought in 2008 was in perfect shape until she and Zeke moved to my sister's house. She would often lament, quietly so as to not be an ungrateful house guest if my sister was in the vicinity, that Zeke never clawed the furniture! It was true, but then he had all that lovely wood, posts and beams in the house. |

Blizzard, I know what you mean. If I put a throw on a piece of furniture, they won't scratch the throw, but they will stick their little bodies under the throw to get at the sofa. |
