Underwater treadmill? I wonder how that works for a cat?

Skinny, the tabby cat that once tipped the scales at 42 pounds, has dropped nearly half of his body weight.

That was the update Thursday by Dr. Brittney Barton, who is overseeing Skinny's weight loss at HEAL Veterinary Hospital off Lemmon Avenue in Dallas.

On Thursday, Barton tweeted "Skinny the cat is soooo close to his goal weight! Down to 22 lbs 12oz!"

Barton, who is Skinny's attending veterinarian and owner, has had the cat on a strict fitness regimen, which includes walking in an underwater treadmill.

In September 2012, Skinny was found in the backyard of a Richardson residence. Skinny was first taken to stay at the Richardson Animal Shelter before moving to East Lake Pet Orphanage where he could receive expert care of his large size.

A year later, Barton told neighborsgo that she wants Skinny to weigh 22 pounds.
Mission accomplished.

I imagine the water buoys up a lot of the cat's weight allowing him a farther walk than his 42 pound limit of 5 feet. Sort of the same idea as water aerobics for those whose weight aggravates their arthritis.

Although, how you get the cat INTO the water without a battle royale mystifies me.

Thanks. Getting the cat to that point is what stuns me.

I don't think a cat of that weight would be agile enough to put up much of a fight.

I wonder what the cat handler looks like after the kitty comes out of the water!

I had a smart Persian and a stupid one.
The stupid one forgot how to clean her ass and needed at least two sprayings in the bathtub per week with one of us holding her and the other handling the rear spraying. Lord how she screamed and screamed. Unbearable all 'round. She would be all pretty for several hours and then take another shit.
It's one of the many reasons I will not get another pet.

Went to Gay Expo at the Javits Center yesterday and a pet center was trying to palm off a skinny exhausted 9 year old cat who was positive for feline leukemia. Can you imagine anyone taking that on? She was a pretty cat but I'd give her near zero chance of making it until Christmas. (I watched the progression of FeLV in my mother's cat so I know first hand...not pretty.)
