In past years, going away for the month of March has pretty much guaranteed decent weather and no snow when we return. This time, I feel cheated. It's cold, and there is dirty ice and snow all over. No fair. Howzit for you? |

Just last Sat. AM, we all woke up to about 4 to 6 inches of fresh fallen snow and it looked like a beautiful winter wonderland - until one looked at the calendar. :cold: |

I still have a dirty gray pyramid of snow on the lawn and a grubby snow ridge at the back, but I'm grateful for bare roads and nicer weather lately. |

Until lately our area has looked pretty much the same as it has all winter. Still deep, white and pretty. Now, it's flatter and dirtier but mighty good to see as I anticipate more dirty snow and dirty grass showing the way to spring. |

I don't know why snow is crustier this year. Apparently the moisture content is low which is good for when it thaws. It feels rock hard when shovelling. The latest snow storm just missed The Peg and hit surrounding areas including Kenora and other parts of Ontario. This is a year we will talk about for years to come. |

Forsythia, camelias, magnolias, hyacinths, daffs, winter viburnum, Himalayan boxwood, winter daphne and muscaria are all in bloom at the moment. The migratory sort of hummingbird returned 2 weeks ago and last night I had 5! hummingbirds of 2 sorts bathing and feeding near their bedtime last night 7:30- 8:00pm. There are more of them visiting since I started trying to attract them a few years ago. It will be hot there before you know it! Edited by Dana, Apr 3 2014, 05:11 AM.
