You know what most pisses me off, Bitsy?
I have the EXTREME TV package from Verizon FIOS and in New York City this package is advertised, even on MY VERIZON web page as including Showtime and HBO. A technician clued me in on it.
I had been buying HBO for half price for a year and feel I have had my pocket picked.
So not its up to $20 and When I called Verizon on it they basically said "Yes, it's included with EXTREME in NYC but not for you." Imagine.

Verizon is currently at the bottom of my shit list but I am not done doing battle with them yet. But I will NOT pay $20/month for something I should be getting free.
After the dust settles, if I don't get my way, I may well end up a Time Warner subscriber.
That makes no sense, why is it not included for you? Is Showtime included?

Showtime IS included.

And yes , it makes no sense why HBO is not included. I have a guess that it MIGHT be because I talked my way into a "free MR-DVR for life" and they don't want to give me anything more than that.

I'll keep you posted.

(I'm paying in the vicinity of $140 now for the triple play...it was $116 in January INCLUDING the $10 for HBO.) If I added back HBO I'd be about $160...too much. My only extra is a set-top box (not DVR) in the bedroom.

How much are they getting you for ?(not counting cellphone: just TV, internet and land line.)

Somehow I missed your question, Trotsky.

They have soaked me; I was one of the fist subscribers when it became available in my area and have taken every increase that has come along. On occasion, I will complain about the deals being made to new subscribers and they will toss me a bone

I have one of the cheapest TV packages available, HBO, Showtime (which was latest bone but it goes away in a couple more months), set top box, outdated DVR, low speed internet, and phone for $156.00.

GoT never ceases to surprise......

It isn't on tonight, taken off for the movie "Normal Heart" which should be interesting if upsetting. Game of Thrones returns next week.

Well, make sure you keep up with THE YEARS OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY while you have Showtime...important TV.

<The newest DVR is a 500 gig Model 7232...why not ask for one? There's never any danger of filling it up>

Alli,

I hate sounding stupid, but I don't know how. It's all Greek to me. (Plus I'm a little scared to try it...should I be? )

I often wonder why people get so caught up with fantasies like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings when they are made into movies or television plays and yet say that they don't enjoy fantasy when they are presented with the superior product in book form before these programs are ever presented in the easier to swallow media.

The story is the same, although richer and more involved, the characters are the same, although deeper and more fully fleshed. In fact, the book form is a richer experience all round so, why the disparity?

I grew up reading Tolkien.... My son read the series as soon as he began reading . You enjoy the book true. You have a mental picture however put into film you have a visual .. I enjoy both..Glad we have the technology to provide us both.

I hate to say it, angora, but the older I get the more I view books as hard work. Perhaps it has to do with near vision that is not what it was, perhaps it has to do with the TIME a long book takes divided by my expected time left on Earth. Who knows?
But to me watching THRONES on TV is a lot more appealing than wading through 7 novels.

Martin believes the two last volumes of the series will be big books of 1500 manuscript pages each

One of the wonderful reads of my life were the DUNE pentalogy over several years...but I don't have that oomph in me anymore. Time to do these sagas the "easy" way...in high definition. I liked the TWILIGHT SAGA movie franchise (on TV natch) but without the video it's not something I would have spent a couple hundred hours with.

I still like a good read, but once I start looking at multiple volumes or 1000 page novels I do the Monte Python schtick...I RUN AWAY!

Tolkien always bored me...books or movies. Silly stuff for kids.
