Alli, funny that one of your son's first reading experiences should be LoftheR. I know Ive mentioned this before but my daughter has ADHD and was unable/unwilling to read with and proficiency up until grade 5 when I started read the Lord to my kids as their nightly bed time story. They were captivated and all was well until I developed pneumonia and lost my voice. Naturally, no more nightly Lord. So, she just picked up the book and read it for herself. She went on from there and steamrollered through any fantasy she could find, put on a successful play of LoftheR at the school concert, wrote a full length fantasy novel of her own etc. She is still struggling with ADHD, still winning and still reading. Bless her.

I often wonder why people get so caught up with fantasies like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings when they are made into movies or television plays and yet say that they don't enjoy fantasy when they are presented with the superior product in book form before these programs are ever presented in the easier to swallow media.

The story is the same, although richer and more involved, the characters are the same, although deeper and more fully fleshed. In fact, the book form is a richer experience all round so, why the disparity?
Fantasy was never a genre high on my reading list and until I retired, my reading was limited by time and now, unfortunately, it is eyesight. As a big fan of HBO and its programming, I will always give their new shows several opportunities to hook me. I was hooked on GoT from the beginning, as was my oldest grand; he immediately bought the Fire and Ice series and thus began our journey with the books. Although the books are more satisfying, I am enjoying both and the shows adroitness in adapting and filming these books is masterful.

Screw bolt #634 to connect pieces #4321 and #4322.

I have one Ikea-looking shelfy-cabinety thing that I hate more every time I look at it. I don't mind BUYING something cheap: I just hate things that LOOK like cheap crap.

Last episode of Thrones: did anyone else get sick of that overlong battle?
Why when they build a wall of ice a gazillion feet high do they put a door at the bottom????

I must admit, that anchor flailing across the wall was pretty good idea.

I don't enjoy battles and that's one reason I prefer reading, I can always skip them. Steven Erikson who writes the Malazan series writes the only battles that ever held my interest but I have got over them now too.

I guess in a book, the battles must be self limiting. "And then A hit B with a axe to the head. C decapitated D and F made a run for it getting hit with 18 arrows. G and H fought for 12 minutes with swords....X had his throat slit by his pissed off lover, Y."

Books would soon be turned to papier mache' with too much of that.

I found the entire episode tedious to watch. And lastly John Snow, walks out of the wall, no sword, no protection not even anything to protect himself from the elements and that "touching" love scene while in the throws of battle saying good bye to his "girlfriend" Seriously who does that!! Or Sam oh please enough already.......

It was like watching a bad version of Lord of the Rings..... 015

One episode left! I think next week I will watch the series (5) in it's entirety Too many things that were left and stories or pieces that weren't necessary really spoiled a few episodes.

I finally got caught up on Breaking Bad...... Walt was such a S*^T Good though, but not as good as The Wired!!

i am surprised that they devoted the entire hour to this battle without a conclusion. This week will be a challenge and interesting to see how they tie up the story lines. One hour is not enough time to fully present the many surprises that were in the book.

Alli, I loved Sam in the last episode, actually, he has always been one of my favorite minor characters. I have enjoyed seeing his character grow in confidence and courage, evidence in his line,"And when you’re nothing at all, there’s no reason to be afraid.” His scenes with Jon are the highlight of my visits to the wall (not my favorite locale).

Jon: “I’m not a bleeding poet,”

Sam: “No, you’re really not.”

I remember reading that sequence and holding my breath waiting for the dragons to swoop in and save the day/not.

Yes! I can't imagine how they are going to get it all in this one episode.

GOT has been over for the past few days. Wanted to give Trotsky time to catch up before I posted.

So Sunday's finale was certainly heads up over the previous weeks..
opinions what were your thoughts?
Surprises?

One thing for certain 6 more seasons have been ordered

I really don't like the incest scenes between Jamie and his sister Cersee is a little over the top....
We get it already, I don't especially want to see them having sex in any crypts, in front of their fathers body enough already........

I was expecting more of a cliffhanger but I enjoyed it, and when Tyrion went roaming I thought Sis was going to get it.
Can we assume that the two arrows knocked off Daddy?

I found those skeleton warriors a bit wearisome.

Good Lord, I hope we all live long enough.

I was hoping for even more action between Jamie and Cersei...but then I have a prurient spirit.

I ask you, what's a good thing for, if
Not for taking it to excess?
