Watched last night. Leonardo de Caprio gives a terrific, energetic performance that is a delight. For a 3 hour movie it holds you but the hold would have been tighter with some judicious cutting of the zaniest parts. But I recommend the movie. <Nuts, misspelled the title. It is of course WOLF.> Moderator, can you help with my typo? The earliest scenes with the "boiler room" portrayal of brokers? Well I visited one on Wall Street in 1970. My thought was these guys must be NUTS to spend a day like that. I got palpitations just watching them screaming at one another. So, not as over the top as the uninitiated might think. I used to prosecute, specifically, boiler rooms. I still have copies of a few scripts that were publicly revealed evidence, for some of those cases. If anyone ever comes to visit, would be happy to share these actual boiler room scripts, but too long to scan and post. |

I have the DVD, but have not yet watched it. The cuts I have seen appeared very true to reality and I despised those guys with such a passion and they were such a major part of my life for 7 years, I don't think I want to spend another 3 minutes with them, let alone another 3 hours. The best gift I ever received was after a deposition in which I trapped one of these guys committing perjury (shortly thereafter, his law firm was so embarrassed, they withdrew from his representation), and during the deposition, when he realized I had caught him, he jumped up and while still on the record, under oath, with the court reporter still transcribing every word, called me "a brass balled bitch," my colleagues chipped in and got me a desk thingy...one of those things people used to have on their desks with their names engraved?....that said "Brass Balled Bitch." I used it proudly :-) To this day, on the rare occasion when I get email from attorneys in Philadelphia, some will start of "Dear BBB." |

Hon, I'll bet you might enjoy the movie despite despising the milieu. I liked it more than Bob and I am the MBA in the family. If you own it you might as well watch it and then maybe toss it across Puget Sound. It's played for satiric fun and you might be in a better position than most to get the satire. |

Thank you both. Next to my son's PSAT scores, it was one of my proudest moments ever. |

Dear BBB, May I ask why you would buy a movie for $20+ tax with no intention of watching it? Or was it DH's idea? Edited by Trotsky, Apr 18 2014, 01:13 AM.

Aha, a "gift." So listen: if you could stand FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS you may like this film. Let that be your guide as to whether you want a movie or a drink coaster. It is almost THAT kind of zany and I know it is not everyone's cup of tea, Edited by Trotsky, Apr 18 2014, 06:08 AM.

Way to go B.J.! You must've been a more senior Nancy Grace! I enjoy seeing her go at it with Mark Gerigos! |
