Hail!

I have never seen anything like this before in my entire life.

It is hailing so hard, continuously for over 15 minutes now, that I fear nothing planted in my garden will survive.

Usually hail turns to rain after a few minutes....but this is a steady downpour of ice!

Can you see the hail coming down - streaking the photo? This is my flower garden covered in ice:

Not much we can do that I can think of, but any suggestions would be welcome.

I wonder how Kahu is doing. Vancouver island is so close to us, we often have the same weather, especially the southern part where Victoria is.

Not exactly a good springtime we are having, well ours so far has been rain and thunder etc., no hail yet.

I have seen some very bad hailstorms in Alberta, one of my summer jobs from school was for an insurance agent and I had to go to farms to assess crop damage. That year nothing much was salvageable, but the root crops rallied.

It looks quite heavy in the pictures, I do hope that your garden is OK. It is so nice from the past pictures I have seen.

It didn't do that here today though I have seen it like that before. I think such storms stir up in little pockets of weather, maybe where a cold front meets with a moist warm one. It's a fluky thing much like whether we get snow in winter or not.

Your garden will likely not suffer in the long run though it might show the scars for a little while. It's a good thing that it happened while growth is so rampant. Recovery ought to be quick as long as the hail melts soon.

We had hail here today too, but the hail only lasted for a couple of minutes in the midst of heavy driving rain.
