For those who missed Audra McDonald's moving acceptance speech after an unprecedented 6 wins in all 4 acting categories. Thanking her parents for not medicating her as a hyper-active child should give pause for serious thought to parents dealing with a child who is different. http://www.vulture.com/2014/06/audra-mcdonald-tearful-tony-awards-speech-video.html |

All that bouncing about by Hugh Jackman was getting on my nerves. Although I do give him credit for being so damned healthy to be able to do it - I couldn't breath just watching him :sigh: |

I didn't see the point of that bouncing entrance and it went on much too long. I enjoyed some of the numbers, especially the Aladin one. There was an old movie with someone bouncing - maybe Donald O'Conner? |

He definitely was a better host, but I guess because he's on B'way at the moment he wouldn't have had the time to do it this year. |

Yeah, Jackman was annoyingly over the top from beginning to end. And why did the TONYS waste precious time advertising two shows that had not yet opened? I know...MONEY TALKS. Not the best I've seen. |

I saw two performances of HEDWIG, the first the first week of its opening in Greenwich Village at the Jane Street Hotel on the Waterfront. It starred the author John Cameron Mitchell and it was down and dirty and WONDERFUL. Then it moved with a replacement actor, Ira somebody or other. It was the same play with the same grit although missing a LITTLE without JCM, who was just unbelievable. The movie version I cannot remember much of other than it was too expanded but starred JCM. This current production looks all sweetened up and softened with Neil Patrick Harris. From what I saw he is all wrong for the part of a bitter half-woman with an inch long penis stub and a life of torment and betrayal. It is no longer what anyone would call "hard rock." Sanitizing Hedwig for the $200 a pop for the tourists seems wrong-headed to me. But since I haven't seen this version except for promos and the TONY'S and probably will not, I cannot say for sure.
