We entertained a guest yesterday with a viewing of THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (Netflix Blu-Ray disc.) Guest and I loved it, Bob liked it so we gave it 5 stars. It a kaleidoscopic allegory, charming and a bit childlike with lots of humor, some even to the point of the Three Stooges. There are snippets of homages to many other films and stars galore playing small parts. But the focus is on Ralph Fiennes as a hotel concierge in a Grand Hotel. The ultra color, and set designs are magnificent. I predict an Oscar nomination for Mr. Fiennes and perhaps a supporting actor nod for his funny little Indian companion named Zero...certainly set design will get nominated. Don't adjust your set because the director Wes Anderson deliberately changed the size ratio's to indicate 4 different time periods. Only the modern day is in full Cinemascope (letterboxed), earlier periods are variously full 16 x9 (full screen) or 4 x 3 (clipped at the sides) or smaller (clipped on 4 sides.) Get it to the top of your Netflix Queue pronto. Edited by Trotsky, Jul 21 2014, 01:07 AM.

It was funny quirky Ralph Fiennes was great Could expect nothing less of Wes Anderson of the Royal Tennenbaum fame a lot of different actors/actresses playing a various array of silly roles...Adrian Brody was so nasty.... laugh123 Posted Image It's good for a second watch...... Mr Thinnes can be deliciously handsome in many of the movies he has starred........ oooh 02 Edited by Alli, Jul 21 2014, 06:15 AM.

With that, I agree. I had no idea who that was until they showed the cast in the credits. |

There is a movie, out now or soon, called boyhood, which is getting raves. Took 12 years to shoot with an ensemble of actors. Want to see. |

Bob said "it's gonna win everything" (Boyhood) and he compared it to the British movie series 7-up, 14-up, 21-up, 28-up, etc. which they've been shooting for the last half century. It was only released this weekend. I guess it will be 6 months til Netflix. Edited by Trotsky, Jul 22 2014, 07:10 AM.
