Apples are the worst and avocados have the least contamination. The super vegetable, Kale, is neat the top of the dirty list:

Kale seems to be popular in North America ... here we only feed it to cows!

Where the hell did kale come from? Seriously, how did the cauliflower's ugly cousin go from this thing no one outside a few food/health freaks had ever heard of to suddenly being the single most important vegetable none of us can possibly live without? In fact, while we're at it, how the heck do some foods become faddish, while other foods will never be fashionable, ever?

I didn't know what kale was until about three years ago. This year eight plants were grown and now they are about 7 feet tall producing prodigious leaves. I have juiced much of it.

Also have an abundance of collards and Brussels sprouts. These I like since I classify them as green vegetables like Swiss chard, lettuce,and spinach and they are easy to grow. Usually I mix the green vegetable juice with fruit juice in the drinking glass.Healthy, who knows?

I am taking the mantra of eat more fruit an vegetables to heart.

The 'cides probably do more damage to our health than we presently know.

My favourite green vegetable is beet greens, anyone see the price in the stores? That is why I usually only have one feed a year.

My beet crop is quite spectacular this year, must love the rain. We really like beet tops and beets themselves

What do you do with beet tops? I have a row of golden betts ready to pick, but I always threw away the tops.

As for Kale, I grow my own, and unless there is a prolonged hard freeze, it goes all winter.

I use it in soups and quiches.

Beet greens are the cheapest veg in the world. Go buy beets with the tops on at a veg store or market and they will ask if you want the greens. SAy yes and they give them to you free. They will also give you other people's discarded greens if you ask.

You cook them like spinach. I use a little more water and cook them a little longer as they are a bit tougher than spinach.

Beets are expensive here IMO. You don't get enough greens to bother with so it must depend on where you live. Maybe they're cheaper from a stand in the country. Broccoli, cauliflower, little green cabbages, squash, watermelon, peaches, and nectarines are all in season around here and really good. Maybe the beets will get cheaper later on.

The beets may be expensive they are just starting. I'm buying the pinkish ones right now and there are lots of greens but I go to a farmer's market. I'm always amazed by people who discard the greens. They were my father's favourite veg. and if Im not mistaken they have more vitamins than spinach since they are a darker green. I like spinach better though 'cause the beet tops are more bitter.
