The Kowhai just beginning to flower ... one of our very few deciduous trees.

The long tubular flowers are filled with nectar

And the Tuis and Bellbirds love them ...

The tree ferns seem to have shot up a bit more along with the changes in temperature and increased rainfall this year.

The rangiora (Bushman's friend) beginning to flower.

The kawakawa (macropiper excelsior Pepper tree) beginning to flower too

Beautiful, Alberta has signs of winter and the kids are making snowmen on Sept. 8th. My sister in Calgary said the last time this happened was in 1922. Many crops are not in, people are wondering how much damage there will be because it is below freezing.

We had some snow, too. All gone in the afternoon. I remember a much bigger snowfall on the labour day weekend in the 80s.

Goodness, Kahu, it looks like you never had winter. So much green!

Delphi, I am not surprised about you having snow, you are much further north than Calgary. I remember snow in September as a child when I lived in Northern Alberta.

We are green all year Delphi ... snow is usually just on the high country, very rarely on the valley floor this far north.
