Looking really good Delphi. I like the over hangs. Is there storage space above? How long will the wood of the deck last, built into the ground that way? We would never consider putting wood directly onto/into the ground that way and ever expect it to last here. |

Wood foundations are common in the west. The concept is now allowed by the Ontario Building Code. My BIL built his home using a wood foundation. ( pressure treated of course!) |

There is a bit of storage above the deck ceiling accessible via a pull down attic ladder. There is a floor in the middle part, about 8 ft by 8 ft. I have only leftover soffit and siding up there so far. The climate is quite dry, good roof, the drainage pretty good, no termites. I wouldn't be surprised if the deck lasted 20 years. Not far to fall if it fails! |

My hat is off to you Delphi, an amazing feat. (Did you have experience in professional construction or is it strictly DIY, learning as you go? |

Learning as I go but building is in the family DNA. When I was 5 years old my dad built a house on the farm and pulled it into town with the tractor. I remember "helping" pound nails. In the 1980s my dad and I built our garage. Two of his brothers built houses, much nicer ones, but I didn't get a chance to help. I never built a house but at least I built a room. |
