My Mother always made chili with ground beef, kidney beans, onion, and tomato soup. Although mine started out like that, it has morphed to include: Ground beef, mushrooms, red, green, and yellow sweet peppers, canned 6 bean medley, canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and garbanzo beans, onions, garlic, cayenne pepper and chili powder. I like it served with mashed potatoes. It keeps nicely in the freezer. I've never tried making chili out of cubed beef which I understand is big in the south. I make a huge pot and deliver some to my daughter who is allergic to cooking laugh123 I have heard some people add cocoa powder or coffee.. |

Oh! I guess we all tend to think that the way our Mom's made chili was the authentic way!! |

I think it is Texas thing here based on our proximity to Mexico and their influence on our food more than a family thing. |

That sounds fabulous bitsy. I don't like beans and have tried to make chili with the meat cubes and it wasn't fantastic. Is cumono sp - cumin? Ive got to try this. I like to put chocolate shavings in too. D'ya think I could do that with this recipe? |

Yes, cumono is cumin. I have never had chili with chocolate shavings, at least to my knowledge. As many chili cook-offs as I have attended, I may have and not even known it. |

This must be local where I live. Hot spicy chili is served with toast and sour cream on the side. I tried it and liked it. I cook rice and add it 'to the chili because I just like rice any way I can find it. |

I like it with toast and sour cream too, and shredded cheddar cheese on top. |

With the sour cream and shredded cheese, it would be good served in one of those edible corn chip bowls. Yum!! |
